Umm...which races have you been watching? Speed has been a passing-machine on first laps this year.

Which means nothing. Even if he poles for every race, it's meaningless if he's not in the points.

Is that supposed to be Scott's fault? The car simply CANNOT compete with most of the field. It doesn't help that they confirmed their drivers so late, they completely missed out on winter testing. If you're looking for some Schumacher or Senna like performance out of a crap car, sorry that can't happen nowadays. Today with all the computers and TC, you can't score in the points unless the top cars start crashing out and you pull off awesome strategy like Spkyer did at the Nurburgring. There may be drivers out there who can produce better results out of those cars, but if you think someone can propel those cars into the points consistently, HAH!

Uhhh where in that post did I say Scott Speed sucked?

I said even if he finishes all qualifying sessions on pole, it's meaningless unless he can score points.

If another driver can give you better finishes or at least no owrse finishes or damage to the car, go for it.

And now that you posted it. I think Scott Speed only got the drive because he is from the US. How much did Red Bull spend on him 30 million? If he can't do it, let someone else and yes there are better drivers than Scott Speed. Let's see what happens with his career from here on out shall we?

How much is Red Bull biting the bullet on this? With all the resources they put into finding the next great american driver only to pull the plug shortly thereafter?

What will Scott do now? I wish him the best, my Dad is pretty upset, he has all the Scott Speed gear he could get his hands on :p
He talked with Speed's dad at the USGP, Dad got him to talk to me and my girl on the phone(we were at different hotels). I will miss Scott, seemed like he didn't get a legitimate shot, especially with the powers they're bringing in to work on the car.

Honestly, that wasn't the point of the search. The search was to find someone who's first and foremost, marketable. The skills are secondary. Because of his looks and his name, he was chosen. The buzz going around was that there were drivers who beat him, but weren't chosen because their names weren't quite as "fitting". Besides all of that, he was the one who was chosen and brought to F1. If Scott wasn't being treated like this, then I wouldn't have a problem with it at all. I personally really like the idea of Bourdais and Vettel getting the seats. My problem is that I think the drivers are being given too much of the blame, and when it comes to physical assault, then that's stepping out of line.

Please. He's the only American that has won a European F1 feeder series, ever. He's the only real candidate on the list as far as Americans who deserved to be in F1. He got 3rd in GP2, 1st was Rosberg & 2nd was Kovalainen. I doubt Vettel will make this piece of **** car go anywhere.

I'm talking before all that. I'm talking during the karting and formula Russell, Star Mazda, and Red Bull search days.

A good friend of mine raced SKUSA Karts against Speed before he went to Formula classes in Europe. At one point in a race I made a snide comment about Speed's ability, or lack thereof. I was given a eye-opener from my friend who said that he was a pretty damn good driver, and a nice guy. The media has done a lot to contribute to the notion that Tonio and Speed are the sole reasons for their respective performances. Guaranteed that car is sh*t to drive. Sometimes you get that, my friend has gotten many lame karts due to sponsorships and class regs etc and sometimes as frustrating as it is, there is nothing you can do as a driver.

Too bad. Hopefully he can secure a seat somewhere. Though i think Red Bull (due to the brand's image) was his best (and only) bet. Can you imagine the backlash if he drove a Renault. US driver in French team... Hah. Both countries would go to war over it i bet.

This is F1: They all can drive. They all are heads and shoulders above the rest. I have no doubts Speed will be a winning driver in IRL or Champ cars if that's where his career will take him next. But he ain't cutting it in F1.

Justin Wilson went from being a backmarket in F1 to a title contender and race winner in Champp Cars.

I hope Speed finds a home in F1 but he will be a competitive driver back in the US.

He got sacked by the worst team there is. How much lower can he possibly go? Test driver for Spyker?

From what I'm reading in the Euro press he is finished in F1. Not so much for his lack of talent but for his attitude.

Saw this morning that there's another driver who will probably replace Albers for the remaing races with Spyker. What are you hearing in the Euro press about that? I guess I didn't realize Marcus was only driving once.

Albers is done for. They ridicule him as the "gas station idiot" (Tank Trottel) for his pitstop in France.

    Sorry to see SS go.
An unfortunate turn of events which will make it tougher for the next US F1 hopefull. He got 2 (?) years in F1 which is exactly 2 more than most.
The shame would be if that he AND Liuzzi were both phenoms but on the same team in a backmark car they both look slow. Somehow I dont think thats the case.

I did like the last race where finishing an interveiw, and before climbing into his car, he turns to a lone crew member a gives a yell of cheer just to that guy as if to say "What are we all so glum about ? I'm about to drive an F1 car in a race ! Lets Live !".

    ...am I missing here something:

I still have not seen any confirmation that Speed did indeed get fired and/or that Vettel got hired.

The latest I heard is that Berger publicly ridicules his drivers, but they are indeed still his drivers.

    Any updates anybody?

From autosport.com, dated late last night (Weds):

"Furthermore, when asked by autosport.com if Speed will race in Budapest next week, Tost himself replied 'yes' unequivocally."

Very interesting and maybe Speed's career isn't over just yet: I read that the problem with Vettel is, that BMW doesn't want to make a decision any time soon as it would heavily influence their driver lineup for 08 and they haven't decided that one yet (read: they loose bargaining power against Heidfeld if they already place Vettel somewhere else).

Also Berger said, that he wouldn't let Vettel drive a GP without at least one day of practice/testing. With the Hungarian GP approaching fast, the chance for that day evaporates. And after the Hungarian GP the 4 week test ban (summer pause) will go in effect, so that would give Speed also a chance to drive the Turkish GP.

    I hope not.

I was never a fan of Speed last season, I think there are other Americans I would prefer to see in F1 but the fact is that he's been doing a reasonable job, and at times an impressive one this year, and deserves to keep his seat.

I like the fact that we have an American in F1 and increasingly this season I am becoming more and more impressed with Speed. I really hope he doesn't lose his seat. He is never going to be a GP winner. let alone World Champ, but the same is true for a lot of guys currently in F1. I would rather see Ralf go than Scott.

What a strange turn of events if by Tosts actions Speed actually was saved from dismissal.

Hope he has a great race.
