Just moved here, what's the best? We have a Morton's, Ruth's Chris (both of which are "ehhhh" in my experience)... house of prime rib I heard is good for prime rib, but I prefer a filet. Any suggestions?
Steak blows. You are in one of the finest areas in the US for dinning Try some Italian or Sushi, or anything for God's sake!!!!
i go out almost every night, had sushi last night, had italian a few nights before that, trust me, the restaurant economy here is getting plenty of my $ and I'm finding some great places.
Check out Bobo's on Lombard for an amazing Filet. Disclaimer: I may not be held responsible for any heart attacks, clogged arteries, ambulance rides or ER visits, etc. that make come from eating a deliciously high in fat slab of meat from Bobo's.
I second Bobo's for a good steak, their other specialty, crab, is very good also. Larkcreek Steak in the new Westfeld downtown is good too: http://www.larkcreek.com/larkcreek_steak/index.html
you can also try House of Prime Rib on Van Ness, McNamara's in Dublin, Vic Stewarts in Walnut Creek among a few.
I've seen many great reviews for Bobo Quivari's and decided to give it a try last month; I left quite disappointed in both the quality of service, and the steak. I suggest Ruth's Chris on Van Ness.
I've had a few dinners at Lark Creek Steakhouse at the Westfield Mall, and it's surprisingly good. Not really a "Meat and Potato" place like Ruths Chris and the like (not that there's anything wrong with that) - the tasting sides are all excellent.
Ruth's Chris I've been to in the past had way way way way too much butter... maybe trying to disguise something?
but if you want to exercise your wheels, go to Woodside and try out the Woodside Pub....fantastic food, great steaks. Alexanders in Cupertino is another great place for a great steak. However, given the variety and depth of restaurants you've got to choose from in SF, it may not make sense. Best of luck.
I wasn't impressed with Ruth's Chris either. I did have a great steak at Harris Restaurant though. Great . now i'm hungry ... thanks guys hahaha
My recommendation would be House of Prime Rib. I've been there a number of times and I am never disappointed. Great service and good food! Well worth the trip in my opinion! Another is Forbes Island, which was recommended to me by a friend. I've never been there, but is supposed to be on a man-made island and is very unique. The inside is supposed to give you a feeling that you are on board an old time ship. The only way to get there is by a shuttle boat (which you have to pay for separately). Great place for a romantic dinner with a nice setting and great views of the bay! On the pricey side, but is a very nice place for special occasions. Their website is www.forbesisland.com By the way........Welcome to the Bay Area!
try http://www.salthousesf.com/ A16 Hawthorne Lane Boulevard Acme chophouse Town Hall Not all are steak houses
Bobo is the only place I know in the City where you have to pay for the bread. And it was not that good, so don't order it. If you like crab, the crab and steak combo is excellent.
Start off by saying the bread was free, where did you hear you had to pay? I had lobster soup, some fruity drink and a filet. The lobster soup had some curry in it, was pretty unique and good, different than the avg lobster bisque. The steak was amazing, top 2 or 3 I've ever had, on par or better than Alexander's in Cupertino. I will def. be going back to Bobo's soon after I try out some other steakhouses in the city. I should also add the waiter was very courteous, prompt service and even had a conversation with him about people overextending themselves and a friend he had in Newport Beach who pays $3k/mo on homeowner's fees. I also liked that I could get in and out in less than an hour, whereas some other places serving this quality of food may take 2 hrs. Sometimes I like a slow meal, but this time the waiting was perfect. Thanks again for the recs.
