And 20th in the standings. My boy Jeff Gordon is still #1. Montoya will be the first driver to race at Indy in the Indy 500, F1 and NAStyCAR.
JPM moved up 1 place to 20th in the standings. Doesn't look like he will be in the top 10 shootout at the end of the season. JPM is two places ahead of fellow rookie Ragan and is in contention for Rookie of the Year. JG remains in first place. He will almost certainly be in the shootout. JPM started 2nd and finished 2nd. JG started 21st and ended up 3rd. Nice driving, Jeff.
He actually moved up two spots to 18 from 20. He's 200 points behind Jr who is in the last playoff spot (top 12 now). Why not give some credit to JPM?! He didn't have much more room to advance unlike Jeff who started mid-field.
Thank for the correction. NASCAR.com still has not updated the standings for the Indy 400. Sorry. Credit to JPM: Not in the same league yet with Jeff Gordon IMVHO.
You are right Phil, JPM and Gordon are not in the same league. Jeff failed to win a Cup and Busch race, the Indy 500, The 24 hours of Daytona, F1 race @ Monza, Cart Champoinship ........ all as a Rookie. Thanks again for pointing that one out.
but that Indy 500 win and the CART Championship were after the split. Christophe Bouchut took the overall victories in the 1995 24 Hours of Daytona, 1993 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 2001 24 Hours of Spa (FIA GT race), and the 2002 24 Hours of Spa. The Daytona, Le Mans, and Spa wins were ALL on his first try. http://www.bouchut.com/
+1 With no disprespect to Jeff Gordon (IMHO the Best in Nascar), Juan has always won in his Rookie Season. Granted he has had top machinery, Ganassi in CART, BMW Williams in F1, Ganassi in IRL, however the Nascar team that Ganassi has this season is clearly not a Top Team.
Not to get technical, but JPM won the Indy 500 with Ganassi when they were still a Cart team. Cart was winning the battle of the split and all the IRL drivers were no names. All the big money was still in Cart and T. George's Indy 500 was hurting. Pressure from local business leaders led him to allow Cart teams to enter an IRL car. About 6 Cart drivers entered with IRL equipment and took the 1st 5 places. Mopped the floor. Then as time went on sponsors led the teams to the IRL more than the drivers or team owners. JPM also won the Cart title when Cart was king and the IRL was struggling.
this is true. ganassi has a second tier (not bad...but just not close to hendrick) team in nascar and the fact that juan signed so quickly w/ chip indicates that juan was looking for a quick and easy escape from f1. that said, he has done very, very well w/ the machines he has been given...sears point was exciting to say the least! now, another great finish at indy. i am looking forward to the glen!!!
Or that he wanted to go back to the team that helped him win the CART championship and Indy 500 since they're familiar and have the money to develop a car?
al...i would bet that ganassi will pump more dollars into the program and the team will be one to reckon w/ next year!
JPM started 9th and finished 16th. My boy, Jeff Gordon started 11th and finished 4th. JEFF GORDON IS STILL IN FIRST PLACE IN THE STANDINGS!
I dont know if it has been posted already but. Montoya stated that it was a boring race with like 70 laps to go!!
Actually, he said to Donnie Wingo (his crew chief) about a third of the way through; "this is a long race!"
Rained out at Wakins Glen and Boris Said can't drive again because of qualifying. They seriously need to fix their qualifying format. Qualify the next day or early in the morning before the race to put down some times. Not this garbage where they have to have a certain window and nothing else.
Man I really feel bad for Boris. <Rob hates NASCAR>How can they call it road racing if they don't run in the rain?</Rob hates NASCAR>
