World Champion Fernando Alonso has lost his pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix and will start tomorrow's race in sixth place.

The race stewards at the Hungaroring have decided to demote the McLaren driver after reviewing evidence from today's qualifying session, where the Spaniard held up teammate Lewis Hamilton in the pits, causing the Briton to miss out on a final flying lap and possible pole.

Alonso was adamant that he remained stationary for ten seconds because his engineers had told him to, while team boss Ron Dennis told reporters after the session that the incident was a result of Hamilton himself ignoring team orders earlier on in the session, therefore leaving the two drivers out of sequence.

The stewards talked to representatives of the team and reviewed recordings of the car radio transmissions before making their decision, over eight hours after qualifying ended.

I can not beleive this, Alonso did not do anything wrong. why should he be punished? This is to protect Hamilton so he will win the Title, this is not fair play. The world title should be won in the track not in the office and cheating like Hamilton is doing. Alonso will still win the title this Year

I do not think that is fair, punish FA if the radio transmission showed he was wrong. So now FA can score points but not the team? What the heck is going on with F1?

I was about to bash your comments about Alonso but then I saw where you are from.

What the heck, I'll do it anyway. Alonso is a putz, a loser, a sissy, a pansy, a crybaby, and keeps on proving why he doesn't deserve any respect. When did Hamilton cheat? Alonso is just mad that an upstart is showing him up, and rather than beat him on his so-called championship skill, he's chosen to try to win using the same tactics we would expect to see from Super Aguri. The only difference is, Super Aguri would do it by mistake because they don't know any better anyway.

It will be the greatest day in racing when a rookie takes the title from him at the end of the season. Here's a f u to Fernando Alonso, the putziest putz of them all. He should've been knocked to 22nd for this stunt.

Although I haven't heard the transmissions (got a source?), this is the only way that this exact "punishment" makes sense - The FIA must have concluded that it was the *team* that held FA for the extra seconds.

If it were FA "himself" (and/or his physiotherapist as previously postulated....) it would have been more than a 5 spot demotion and *his* inability to score points in the ruling IMO.

It would appear Lucifer f%^ked up :D

[Plus, we've got to assume it's going to tighten the WCC - Which is always cool :)

The stewards of the Hungarian Grand Prix have also penalised the McLaren team, saying the outfit will not be awarded any constructors points in tomorrow's race.

This comes along with a five-place demotion for Fernando Alonso, who has lost his pole position and will start tomorrow's race in sixth place.

The stewards said they did not accept the team's explanations nor Alonso's for the incident in today's qualifying, which saw the Spaniard hold up his teammate Lewis Hamilton, causing the Briton to lose the opportunity to run another flying lap.

McLaren have the right ot appeal the stewards' decision.

LOL you're welcome. Truth be told I JUST finished watching a tape of the qualifying and needed to vent after what I witnessed. So of course I come here to see other reactions/comments/updates etc. But even without this drama, I still think Alonso is a putz.

boo hoo, go watch the bullfighting then, I was quite happy when FA won his first WDC but he has become a tosser ever since and hope he never wins another one, he reminds me of JPM, big head big mouth .... oh and fair play would have been for him to be at the back of the grid like Schumacher had to do at Monaco ... what short memories some have in the FIA

I am not sure who or what you are referring to, but I will comment anyway :) The problem I have with the decision based on the info at hand is if it was the "team" who held Alonso then the team needs to be punished. If it was Alonso then he should be shunted to the back. Losing ony five places is was slap on the wrist and a wink ? Doing both is just strange.

The real sad part in all of this is that if the team had anything to do with this at all then where does that leave Lewis? If I were him I would leave that cheating organization in a heart beat. Who can believe anything that Ron Lucifer Dennis says. This team really is in trouble. I doubt very much their sponsors will all stick around now. I also agree with John above....5 spots? Thats a joke.
PS watch out for the McCheater crane above the track.LOL

This is unbeliveable, MS did the same last yera in MOnaco and he had to go from the pits, why
FA is only punished with 4 positions? who says now that Ferrari is allways favoured by FIA?

This often happens when the stewards wish to make clear that they would like to say to the the folks under scrutiny "thou dost protest too much..."

It means they didn't believe a word of Ronspeak...

Also, when was the last time anyone saw a lollipop go up and the driver not GO?
