I recently purchased a 308GTSi, which I thought was in perfect shape. Well, three weeks after I bought it, I realized that it was in good shape, but not in perfect shape. I got home from a drive, and, while backing the car in the driveway, I noticed that it was running on 4 or 5 cylinders. I quickly cut the engine off, and pushed the car in the garage. The next morning I started the car…and, unfortunately, the problem hadn’t fixed itself. It seemed that engine was running on 4 or 5 cylinders at low RPMs, but on all 8 cylinders at high RPMs. I had no idea what was going on. To add to the problem, I live several hours away from the closest dealership.
I contacted the Ferrari club president of SC, who was very helpful. I was given a name…KARL TROY (European Road and Racing in North Charleston, SC). Thank goodness! It is hard to find the words to truly described Karl and his work ethic. It is just unbelievable! When my car was taken to him, he already was working on several Ferraris, Porsches, Lotuses (some of them from as far as Pennsylvania)…but, he found the time to work on my car (sometimes late at night)…and solved the cylinder problem (and several others I had discovered after receiving the car). Everyday he called me (long distance) to give me a rundown on what he had done.
Karl is extremely talented in working with cars, but also in driving them (just check his website, or ‘Google’ him, and you will see how many trophies he has earned as a race driver). I can only say that I am indebted to the club for putting me in touch with Karl, and to Karl for his excellent work. It’s been great to get to know him. I should also add that Karl is quite fair in his pricing. Just in case you are interested, or need work done by someone who really appreciates fine machinery, his number is (843) 747-1342.

People will always let you know about the bad service they get, but only a few will ever tell you about a good experience. I like the effort on Karl's part to keep you updated everyday. Congratulations and enjoy the ride!

I would categorically rule that out. Karl is a stand-up guy who is a regular participant on this board. Believe me, he has enough work that he doesn't have to rely on surreptitious advertising. He is always buried in work, and for good reason. He recently rebuilt the suspension on our Dino along with some other repairs and did an absolutely first-class job at a very reasonable price.

I think that the OP is a newbie to the board (well, we know that) who is simply enthusiastic about his experience with ER&R.

This was not advertising - Just trying to help other Ferrari owners find great service. Karl had nothing to do with my posting...he just did a very good job.

Actually, a bolt from the flywheel assembly had come undone (work done to the car before I bought it), and ended up bending the reference pins causing a false reference signal.

360, I've always heard it is better to remain silent and thought a fool that to speak up and remove all doubt. I know the story, I referred him to Karl. I am glad the service worked out as I am having a Hell of a time with FOW. I cannot recomend them nor their bodyshop Jt's Collision at this time.

I know you did not just call me a fool...

Check my post... I clearly stated "Forgive me if I am wrong" so back off.

If it is not what I saw it as... oh frigging well. I made a mistake. Sue me. Everyone makes them. Get over it.

But I will state this... It looked like advertising because of several things already mentioned. One I did not mention was the fact that no mention of why the car was having the problem it was but only about the "service" he got.

Now I see once again the reason I stayed away from this forum for so long.

The phone number does make it seem like advertising but who cares if it's an ad or not? I read it and I apprieciate the sharing of a good experience. I get spam everyday in my email, it doesn't wind me up, I just delete it and move on. It certainly shouldn't end up a flame war.

You all know me and that I don’t ever keep my mouth shut. I too think the new guy is just relaying his great exp with Karl.

I have never heard a bad thing about Karl, and though I have never used him his name is on my list if I get into a spot in SC!

If I didn't know Karl, this post was perfect. I am not a mechanic and don't care what was wrong with the car...just that it got fixed and the customer was happy with the "service" he got. Plus, the post said he was referred to Karl by the SC president...too easy to verify, so not very suspicious to me.

    A bit touchy?

Karl needs no self serving advertising. He is VERY well known in the Low Country and beyond. He has been the topic of many posts and is the consummate professional. The post read like a very happy customer who just wanted to share his experience and present Karl's contact number for those interested...clearly he is new to the site as we all know how to get a hold of Karl.

I always say first insticts are usually right...if you stayed away from the forum for whatever reason, you should have gone with your first instinct...welcome back though ;)

Ok 360, sorry for the sarcastic remarks. Honestly, all you have to do is look at my Avatar (yes that is me as created by Dincenzo and the story is partially true) to know that I am the biggest fool on the board. I don't take anything on this forum too seriously, but you are right about something. There are some poeple who have done just what you mentioned, and we know who they are. This just happens to be one of the times the praise is legitimate. Come out and have some fun with us, we have a few really great events coming up, and it's about great people who enjoy and share their cars.

OK, lets not get carried away by calling Mr. Fantango a class act. It may damage his reputation...
    ;)

360 - I think what Juan-Manuel was saying is that maybe before you made your accusation, you may have wanted to know who and what you were talking about. If you knew anything about Karl, as has been said numerous times here, that's not his style. He lets his work and customer service do his advertising. jl308sc is a newbie. So what? Everyone is new to this and every board at some point.

I find it amazing that if someone posts a flaming criticism about a company or person with their first post, people believe it and it grows like wildfire. But if someone wants to give praise, it's immediately considered suspicious and tagged as fraudulent.

Such a cynical world we live in....

Hello my friends. I just returned from Disney with my wife and children. Took a few days off. Between the shop and my racing effort I was getting very burned out from 60-70hr workweeks. Thanks to my wife for making me slow down for a few days to smell the roses.
Next I would like to thank our biggest cheerleader, David Scott,( I am not saying he is fat or a girl) for thinking highly enough of me to refer yet another wonderful client who apparently has lots of "appreciation"(that doesn't look right, oh well, I am Austrian) for what I have to offer and I also want to thank Jean Luc for putting his trust in me long distance and with a car he has driven less than 100 miles since he bought it.
It was a pleasure serving you and these kind of posts mean more to me than anyone can imagine. They make me proud and make me try even harder next time.
I do understand why there are concerns with posts like the one from a happy client but I have to agree that much more energy gets spent on negative ones than on positive ones. I guess that's the way the world works these days. What were the words in a song 20 + years ago "Kick em when they're up, kick em when they're down"
Anyway, thanks again to all of you for the encouraging words of confidence.

    Your "humble" Karl Troy
