I found a Ferrari Binoculars at the boutique store near my office. Does anyone ever used this piece to watch the F1 racing ? I saw a very similar Ferrari binoculars at the camera store before, but looked smaller, I forgot the name of the maker. Now this new Ferrari binoculars is 8x25, looks good and full of Ferrari passion. Can someone tell me if 8x25 is enough for the race watching ?

    Hmmm, no paddle focus.

    :D

It's decent, 12X would be even better. I have a pair that go to 25X, but the problem is that the zoom is high and hand-shaking makes detail view impossible unless mounted on a mono-stand.

strangely, i've never taken a pair to the race. probably because i'm always looking through my zoom lense.

I've been in the optics business for 35 years and the 8x25 is a good compromise. Much over 10x and it is difficult to hand hold them because of shaking. Any 8x25 is good for daytime use but the small objective lens (25mm) does not gather much light. There is a trade off you have to make. Your eye can make full use of a 5mm exit pupil (divide the objective size by the power). Anything more than that is not really useful and anything less is reducing the brightness and ability to see in low light conditions. The compact size of the 8x25 makes them very popular for these types of events though. Hope that helps.

I have a pair made by Olympus which are very similar but different in some of the details. Mine are 8 x 21. They were reasonably okay at GPs.

    8 X 25 is a bit of a compromise.
Magnification (8 X) is just below what otherwise would become difficult to hold steady, while luminosity (25 mm lenses) is low because otherwise the binoculars would become too big.
Ideally a good field binocular would be a 7 X 50, but those are rather hefty in size.

I agree with the above. I have the Olympus/Ferrari version 8x21; it's very compact, enough magnification, and good field of view. I won't use anything bigger at the races.
