Chrome plating

Does anyone know of a good chrome plater in the U.S. that can plate some small car parts and return them by U.S. mail? (basically, mail-order chrome plating).

There are places in Germany. From what I've heard they're very expensive. In fact a Harley dealer here told me they no longer send out parts for re-chroming. It's almost the same price as the new part so they order the new part (if it's still available). If I do send out parts to another country I'd prefer it to be the U.S., for various reasons.

There are definitely more environmental restrictions here. I believe here in Bavaria you are not permitted to change your oil at home, for example (although you can buy drain pans in the shops).

 

I've thought about the kits but it's a lot of hassle and the results might not be that good. I've already got an abrasives blasting cabinet and noisy compressor behing the house and a small powder coating kit. Don't want to press my luck At the moment I want to powder coat my valve covers but I'll probably take it to a firm because they covers don't fit in my kitchen over (and I don't have an I.R. heat lamp). "They're" probably already watching me via satellite ;-)

 

I would be surprised if Italy has anywhere near the strict environmental laws that Germany does. Maybe times have changed... I haven't lived in Italy for more than 10 years but when I was there it seemed there was little concern. I speak more about the "man on the street" versus companies.

Germany and particularly Bavaria have some really great natural beauty and I can see, appreciate and understand their efforts to try and maintain this but sometimes it is frustrating for us gear heads.

The higher prices for your products in Italy probably have more to do with "the middle men" than any laws ;-)
