1.32 at Nordschlieffe?????????????????/ Holy Mother of G.d, that has my attention. i think the new 2 is really ugly, but that's beautiful fast on a bumpy nasty track.... maybe i will get one......
I knew you would come around...spoke to a principal I trust, and he says most dealerships will get 1, maybe two cars, with most just getting a factory spec'd launch car....he reiterated that Porsche have leanred some lessons from the past, and that this car will be limited production (I know, FWIW). To be honest, there maybe some validity to this....everyone thought the GT3 would be produced to oblivion, but 2008 only gets what, 68 RS's and 100 or so regular GT3 ? Numbers are still strong on those cars, and the number I was given for the GT2 was 900 cars worldwide. Maybe full of crap, but signs point to a limited production, and possible value stability. Get this Watt...he also said the goal was to see this car appreciate in its first year, and keep its value....flame suit on now.
As someone who has raced for 20+ years and still does (now in SCCA T-1), and who owns a number of sports cars, I agree that most of us will never understand what a car we own is truly capable of doing. It is also dangerous to put too fast or difficult to drive a car in the hands of someone unskilled. With that said, whether anyone drives fast or slow (and there is a great deal of variability even among race drivers), its what you are happy with on the streets-circuts you drive. We have discussed this many times. A Z-06 is really fast (put a supercharger on it and probably nothing will equal it that is street legal). How many want to trade their Mercedes for a Z-06, let alone a Ferrari or GT-2? At the end of the day, a Ferrari is a great (almost perfect road) car). It is unique compared to the 911 body and is coveted. On the other hand I have never driven a Porsche I didn't like. Best
Faster than getting a coffee at Starbucks: GT2 laps the 'Ring in 7:32 Posted Aug 8th 2007 1:31PM by Chris Shunk Filed under: Frankfurt Auto Show, Supercars, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Driving From its 530 hp, low curb weight of 3,179lbs, and 204 mph top speed, the 2008 Porsche GT2 is a supercar in every sense of the word. Heck, even its 189,496 sticker places Porsche's most potent 911 in the land of the F430 and the Gallardo. Where the Ferrari and the Lamborghini can't match up against the GT2 is where it matters most, on the track. Not just any track, either. We're talking about the track by which all great sports cars are judged... the vaunted 'Ring. Porsche claims the new GT2 can lap the legendary 14-mile course in a mere 7:32, which is 10 seconds better than even the 599 GTB. That ridiculous lap time puts the GT2's average speed at over 110mph, which is just sick. Must be the Titanium exhaust. The 2008 Porsche GT2 is scheduled to appear in Frankfurt in September, and the newest 997 will hit European streets in November. What this forum DESPERATELY needs is a section labelled "Teenage boys' obsessive over-analysis of statistics and performance numbers discussion area". Pointless threads like this one can be quickly moved by the mods into that section, and those that want to discuss this sort of thing ad-nauseum can do so, and those that have grown-up past this sort of thing don't have to see the countless threads that wish to engage in this sort of drivel. Note that "teenage boys" is a state-of-mind and should not exclude those over the age of 19, or girls for that matter from posting. However, I do think those that have the material means (or actual ownership) of the cars being discussed should refrain from posting in this area
