    Nope, knowledge is the barometer.

I own a Dino, I've spent the last four years restoring and researching it.

There are Ferrari tags all over my car, just like when it left the FERRARI factory. There are Ferrari parts all over my car.

It's a name BRANDED Ferrari, no more, no less.

It's registered on the FERRARI OWNER'S SITE. I buy the parts from the factory authorized FERRARI parts supplier.

Enough already. It's a Ferrari, not a Fiat. You couldn't buy one at a FIAT DEALER in the late 60's and early 70's when they were new.

    Next issue.

All true as is the fact that there have been V12 Dino's as well as engines stamped both Ferrari and Dino.

I have actually learned a lot from this thread about the "dinos", aside from the negatives.

I always wondered why Enzo would not have the "dino" under the Ferrari name, after all it was named after his beloved son. Seemed wierd to me, but this helps make sense of the whole thing. Still I wonder, why not just keep the name under Ferrari? Am I making sense??!! LOL!!

After I purchased the F-50, and transferred the money, I went to Cavalari to pick it up. The salesman started the car and was letting it warm up. It was still the garage warming up when the picture was made. This was 1997, and the camera was an old film camera, not a digital. It may look dark but that is because it was in the garage. The other shot of the car is in my driveway the day it was delivered--both shots are on my desk because they represent my first dy of ownership.

As for verifying this . . . call Steve Ahlgrim (a well-known consultant and former FOA employee) and ask him if he was the consultant for "Mark." (Not going to give my last name--Steve knows me.) The car was purchased from John Levy at Shelton in Ft. Lauderdale. I paid Steve's plane ticket and gave him a certified check from Wachovia bank--Peachtree and West Paces Ferry location--and he went to Ft. Lauderdale to pick up the car and he drove it back to Atlanta. I am sure he will remember, beause he said he rarely drives the car back to an owner--he usually puts it on a truck.

If you read my prior post, you will see that I admitted that the door plate was pretty convincing.

And, I am flattered that you would go to all the trouble to look up my prior posts. I'd love to have that much free time.

I guess I am up to 31 now.

Sorry Drive, you pretty much already proved you are a moron. Lets see, had a good life style, lots of Ferrari's, not smart enough not to loose it all in real estate, posted bum scoop on Dinos proving you knew noting about them.... So either your pretty dumb or just lieing to us.

Either way, yea, I got to admit you do come off as a moron!

Got to play this on you now....

It doesn't show a dyno, it just shows a top speed from the factory dyno test. Usually they reset Trip A prior to delivery, but Trip B is locked (in the computer). If you unlock Trib B you can see the top speed from the Dyno test. Mine was 222, another guy posted 196. I'm faster cause I drive a Ferrari 600. HaHa. I have a 612 (in the shop) also and will check its Trip B once I get it back...

Doesn't Ferrari send a set of photos showing your 599 being built or is this only available upon request? A photo of your car on the dyno would be pretty cool.

Number of posts being low means NOTHING, I suppose if Jean Todt came on to discuss racing and was at post #1, he would be discounted too (?).

My first 599 did not have a top speed on trip log B when I picked up the car. My second 599 is at the dealer and I will check it next week. I know that I gave the factory top speed a good challenge on my first 599 and fully intend to do even better on my second one ;););)

LOL, that was a hell of a picture ;)

Now, let se if this gets all the things clear

First the dino was a ferrari named after the son of Enzo, AlfreDINO, Dino ferrari designed a V6 an a V8 variant that i believe was still used in the ferrari 360 Modena...

Now the brand dino was used from 1968 to 1976, it was meant to be used for cars whose engines were smaller, leaving the ferrari brand for only flat 12 an V12 Engines [As some purist think they should be, after all, a ferrari V12 is allways a ferrari right?]

So, Alfredino, and Vittorio Jano Designed a High Performance 1500 CC V6 Engine, with V8 Variants [Remember the Dino 308 GT4?] and it was an amazing engine that found its way From Formula 1 to Fromula 2 and some sport prtotypes...

Now ferrari asked pininfarina a design to compete with the Porsche 911, at the time the, the mid-engine layout was only used for race cars, and later when the lamborghini miura showed that, the layout could be applied to a street legal car, Enzo allowed Sergio Pininfarina to build a Mid Engine Car that debuted for the 1965 Paris Motor Show, Ferrari Asked that the protoype shoul wear the Dino Badge because it was not a complete ferrari [remember only the 12 cylinder models were branded at the time as ferrari, the V6 and V8 Models were branded as dinos, in honor to Alfredino, "a ferrari who dindn't grew up" ]

So, the Dino 206 GT was born and only 150 were made, was a great sport car, but it soon needed more power, they realized that to compete against the 911 they would need to have more power, so Ferrari discontinued the dino, in 1969... at the time ferrari was having succes in almost every category on racing...

Now, in the late 60's ferrari whished to race F2 with a Dino V6 Powered car, but the company could not meet the homologation rules [only 150 206 or so were made...] that required at least 500 production vehicles using the engine...

Enzo, the man himself, asked FIAT to co-produce a sport car using the engine, and voilá, the front engined FIAT DINO was born, and guess what? it used a 2000 CC variant of Alfredino's design... now ferrari could meet the homologation and ferrari entered the F2 series...

So, we have a Ferrari Dino, wich derived in 3 series, 206 GT Series 1, 246 Gt Series 2 more powerful, and 246 GT and GTS [Wich is my personal favorite] Series 3 wich was a little more luxurius than the seres 2 and the fact that it had better gear ratios, and the S optian, a targa roof wich could be stowed behind the seat...

But also we have a Fiat Dino [Ferrari Engine] wich provided the production numbers for the homologation in the late 60's, two body variants were made a pininfarina spider, and a bertone coupe...

Later the dino engine evolved in to a V8, with 2.0, and 3.0 variants, the Dino 308 GT4 was the last ferrari using the Dino Badge, later was sold as a ferrari along with the 208 and later the 308, it was the 2+2 mid engine ferrar wich was replaced by the Mondial...

Now if you look the 1.5 liter v6, evolved to many variants, and was placed in many models, from the Dino 206, to the lancia Stratos and the Lancia Thema, a 4 Door Saloon With a Ferrari V8 [So you tought that the germans invented the formula right?] along with the ferrari engined Fiat Dino, now when the stratos rally car used the dino v6, ferrari had moved to the dino v8, wich was the base for more modern engines such as:

    2.0 L Variant, 1966-1969 Fiat Dino, 1967-1969 Dino 206
    2.4 L Variant, 1969-1973 Fiat Dino , 1969-1974 Dino 246 GTB/GTS, 1973-1975 Lancia Stratos

    V8 Variant, 90° 3.0 L, 1976–1979 308 GT4, 1976–1980 308 GTB, 1977–1980 308 GTS

    V8 Variant Fuel Injection, 1980–1982 Mondial, 1981–1982 308i GTB/GTS

    2.0 L V8 Turbo and non-turbo variants, 1982 208 Turbo

2.8 Turbo, the GTO Engine developed from the 308 and 208 models

    Quattrovalvole Variant or QV of the 3.0 L engine 1983–1984 308 GTB/GTS, 1983–1985 Mondial qv, 1986–1991 Lancia Thema 8.32

F120, evolved from the 2.8 turbo variant from the GTO, 2.9 L F40 engine, the last V8 Super Car and the last super ferrari comisioned by Enzo Ferrari

    3.2 Variant, Ferrari 328, Mondial 3.2

    3.4 Variant, Ferrari 348, Mondial T

3.5 Variant, first using 5 valves for each cylinder, and evolved in to 2 variants, the tipo 129 B and the tipo 129 C, used on the F355

3.6 Variant, Ferrari 360 Modena, evolved from the 355 engine, this was the last Dino V8 Engine as the F430 engine is related to Maserati's 4.2 V8,

Now here comes the weird data, as ferrari was using Flat 12 Engines on the testarossas in the late 80's, and ferrari wanted to get back to the V12 front engine layout, ferrari began the new v12 design from the last Dino V6 a 65° Version, the name of that engine was Tipo 116B and it was based on the engine found in the 348, so the 456 engine was indeed a 12 Cylinder Variant of the 348 model

Later the F50 was introduced and it had a detuned, street legal version of the F1 engine, wich was also shared with the 333sp, the F130

The 550 was based on the 456 engine [Tipo 133, remember, the f50 was the Tipo 130]

Later the 575, and 612, share the same variant of the 550 engine but evolved to 5.7 L [Tipo 133E]

And Finally the Enzo and the 599 GTB Fiorano, Share the engine variant, [tipo 140 For the enzo, tipo 133F for the 599]

as you know, these engines are in the Maserati MC12 and Ferrari P4/5 By Pininfarina

The next V12 will be based on the 430 V8

So as you can see, there is a Fiat dino, wich was a different model, and ther were other models using the same engine, and just because, the F1 Car that Kimi Raikkonen Drives, has a FIAT badge, is not a FIAT Rigth?

    ....

    Best

    Alex
