I am so afraid it will never happen and we came so close. Of all 200+ 1/18 scale diecast Ferraris/Lamborghinis I own this is the one I have always wanted, aside from a 1/18 Mondial 3.2. Who cares about lead in the paint of a scale model car for adult collectors? At this point I want it so bad I wouldn't even care if it was radio active. :D

I believe the recall does just target the toys for younger children, anyone clarify this?

The only lead danger obviously is if you EAT the toy............:D :D

Only die cast I noted on the list were the following from the "Cars" movie:

M1253 “Sarge” toy car sold alone

K5925 “Sarge” toy car sold in a package of two

    Here is the Mattel url:

I totally agree wtih every one of you.How freakin frustrating!!!!!! We are not going to eat the darned thing.
I have always wanted a model of the Mondi Coupe. It's my plan to own the real thing someday as well.Since the recall is only for the defined kid toys maybe we will all will be OK.Get the US and China involved and it could screw up a lot of things and maybe slow our Mondis down or heaven help us grind everything to a halt.
Since Mattel is so huge maybe they can treat this as bump in the road and continue on.If they are this close to delivery it would seem that they could put some kind of sticker on the box certfiying it as lead free.Send it to me unpainted.I would paint it in a heartbeat. We model lovers built and painted car kits when we were kids.Let's everyone keep our ears and eyes on the news!

It appears that some of you have been eating your model cars judging from some of the responses.

That is the problem. The red sauce also comes from China and is contaminated too. :D

I understand it that it's not so much as eating the paint, but as the paint chips and flakes off, inhaling the particles into the lungs is the real problem. We had to send back a bunch of Thomas the Tank Engine toys recently, with a similar recall. I don't think that the amount of lead paint in a few little die-cast cars would really be that dangerous, but over time and exposure to other lead paint items it could all add up. Better to be safe now than sick later in life.
