Whilst changing from 4th to 5th at speed the clutch pedal went slack. I cruised to a halt checked fluid level was ok. Got my mate to bleed it at the block in the engine bay just to be sure but to no avail. Anybody got any ideas whats gone wrong seals etc.. Thanks Steve
Put your head under the dash to see if the clutch pedal has sheered off its connection. Recheck fluid (used correct type, right?!) and rebleed thoroughly. Pump the pedal slowly. Pump the pedal like a madman. If the above doesn't help then you've got a failed master or failed slave/throwout cylnder or a failed clutch.
ok will do.. done this but oh dear not sure used right fluid will check.. got a feeling its one of the above Thanks a lot mate will update
Master cylinder. I had the pleasure of re-parking a Modena not too long ago and after I started the car and engaged first, I realized something was wrong. When I left it in first, brought the rolling car to a stop with the brake and lifted my foot off the clutch completely, I really knew something was wrong. Good luck.
Bought a new Master cylinder cost £121.00 sterling replaced it.. But to no avail. After much pumping of the clutch realized the fluid level was going down slowly. I can only now assume the slave cylinder is leaking As i understand it this means gearbox out .. Any tips as the tech man I have got doesnt go into much deep The chap at the garage told me they have have upgraded some of the seals in some later models sounds like they are a Know fault.. The car is yr 2000 Cheers Steve
Sorry mate, sounds like you have a dodgey car. I know this post is pointless but my British friend always says Dodgey when his car breaks so I wanted to post it here.
This sounds like a problem similar to what F-Chatter RayJohns was describing in this thread. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=149344 I hope this helps. J
Thanks Jason I have had a look this.. I now have a lot of fluid in the tray and have been told not to take the gearbox out till I am sure where the fluid is coming from. The bleed box in the engine bay is poorly designed and been told this could be faultly. Because of the nature of the fault a sudden one, just no clutch a F engineer told me that its could be a pipe failure .The slave seals let go slowly a fault becoming worse over time.. any thoughts anyone... wiill update when taken under tray off.. Cheers Steve
My clutch pedal went completely after a drive. In may case, it was a slow leak rather than a sudden one. The bleed box had cracked and the fluid was lost from it. Apparently, this is a common problem on early Modenas and the Ferrari has the new replacement part for it. I'd check the box first. Mass
Taken the under tray off found that the leak was coming from the flexiable hose it appears to have perished this may have happened due to the fact it is close to the exhaust system try to source one tomorrow.. quite pleased no gearbox of Ps I have noticed the under tray is rubbing on the gear selector cables so much so it has worn the outer protection off this may or i hope it is why i am having trouble with shifting from 1st to 2nd at speed.... will update
Replaced the hose £200.00 robbing gits As I was fixing it to the bleed box that broke.. I cant get my head round some of the crap ferrari parts!! bought a new bleed box not ferrari tho . Not a nice job but done in the end, took it for a spin, it had solved the 1st to 2nd under load problem this also could have been the fact i strapped the gear linkages in a straighter line a possible now v happy
