This really sucks. It was nice to have american driver in F1 and I thought he did good job.
What did you think was going to happen after he got the axe? It is sad to see the only American drive gone though...
That's too bad. I would have loved to see him at another team. I think Toyota should have given him a look. He's no worse than Ralphie.
Scott has upped his game lately. SIlly STRs. they should get their car more reliable 1st before taking it out on their drivers.
pls dont shoot the messenger ppl but outside of the US hardly anyone even knows the guys name. i gotta say apart from the odd mention on commentary the only place ive ever seen him mentioned is here
Scott is the first casualilty of that team.. He shold not have gotten the axe but other teams should take a good look at him.. His game has stepped up but the car always stepped out, if only they could have both danced together maybe.. Lets hope Speed finds his speed !!
I guess I'm the only one who disagrees - Scooter Speed didn't do much in F1 (even given that his car sucked), and for the most part, he came across as a whiner. And, if you saw the several photos of him in F1 Racing about a month or so ago where he was wearing his "Don't try this at home" T-shirt (if I remember correctly, a cartoon of a horse humping a hobby horse), you would have realized that he is, and forever will be, a publicist's nightmare. I thought he came across as incredibly arrogant, even for an F1 driver. From what I have heard, no one (mechanics included) will miss him.
It is a shame that he is leaving F1. He does have talent. He scored a point in his first ever F1 race. Of course he had to be an ass, and got it stripped from him for cursing out a track worker. It seemed that once he got to F1, he didn't have to try hard anymore. What I can't wait for is 2008 or 2009, when Marco Andretti and Graham Rahal go to F1. In interviews Mario said that he wants Marco to be in F1, because that's where the best drivers are.
So then why would he want Marco there ? He has nowjere near the maturity level he needs. I don't see him doing any better than Michael - or Scott Speed - has done. Kinda funny when the last american to really 'do anything' in F1 was Danny Sullivan, and he didn't do much. And PLEASE - don't tell me Eddie Cheever was an American. I think the only 'North American' that could do well in F1 is (sad to say) Paul Tracy - and he's too old now. Or Jeff Gordon, or Tony Stewart, or about 10 other nascar guys. But nobody in open-wheel, not Wheldon, not Hornish, not Kanaan, they are all good, but they just don't have 'it'.
Sad but true, as I really wanted to like Scott. He is reasonably quick in my opinion but still below par by F1 standards. That might be OK if his presentation wasn't kind of a goofy, unprofessional arrogance.
The problem is that Red Bull was hope for him to do what Hamilton has done at McLaren. Sorry but that just wasn't gonna happen with the set up Red Bull has. I don't think Scott sounds all that smart when he gets interviewed, he sounds like a "Spicoli". I do think that he was better than a lot of the other drivers at the bottom of the grid, and the best driver on his team. It would be interesting to see how he would have done if he had been in the seat of a car with better potential than Red Bull. Red Bull did a great thing bringing him aboard, but what they really need to focus on is having an awesome TEAM. The driver is only one part of the package.
How can you measure this? Scott was actually quicker than Tony this year. You don't know what that STR is capable of, so the only conclusions you can can make about is speed, is how he fares against his teammate. People unrealisticly expected Vettel to put that car in the points or something, well that hasn't happened, and it most likely woln't.
I based it on Scott's performance in GP2 where he didn't look good in comparison to Rosberg and Kovalainen. I watched every race that year. I think Scott is probably just as quick as Liuzzi.
Yeah but results in the lower formula aren't absolute, in representing how good someone will be in F1. Hell, look at Pizzonia, he was the British F3 champion. He ended up doing this and getting fired...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bG-RChupkYM Also, I wasn't watching GP2 then, so I'm not sure which teams had the best cars etc.
Scott drove for iSport, one of the best, if not the best team in GP2. He never looked great in straight wheel-to-wheel fights. Not bad mind you, he certainly is a very, very good race driver but we are talking about being competitive in F1 here. There are only a few drivers in the world who are clearly better. I think Scott could have had a career in F1 in the mid-pack if he hadn't adopted goofy, unprofessional arrogance as the style he chose to present to the world. That's not going to work in NASCAR either.
it's not even popular over there ... you guys prefer the ovals right .... In europe, it's one of OUR major sports !
