David Coulthard has revealed how he suffered from an eating disorder as a teenager.

The Red Bull Racing driver developed bulimia as he battled to keep his weight down for racing.

The Scot was nearly 6ft tall but weighed just nine stone and was determined not to get any heavier.

He worked out regularly and controlled his diet obsessively.

He said in his autobiography: "I stopped eating fattening food and, before I knew what had happened, I was bulimic.

"In my mind the only way I could keep my weight down was by making myself vomit.

"At first I was just very, very lean. I became skin and bone, but I weighed myself every morning, noon and night - in the evening if I was half a pound heavier, I'd get in the pool and swim."

Coulthard, 36, from Kirkcudbrightshire, admitted that his behaviour could be viewed as obsessive but he said that dedication was needed to achieve success.

Wow. Kudos to him for being man enough to admit that.

    What is 9 stone?

No problem with him manning up and admitting it, but why did he feel the need?

I'm assuming 90 pounds? That seems like a really low number to me, but I'm not really sure what something like that does to you.

Why would someone think that 126lbs is a good weight for a sportsman? I'm surprised he was able to survive at that weight or have any muscle at all.........

Trying to sell books i guess. It's admirable that he would admit it. Who knows, he might not be the only one to have had that problem.

P.S. DC is about 6 feet tall. MS is 5'9"

The real revelation about DC would be to tell us how he manages to hang on to a F1 seat for so long?

His autobiography should be titled "How to survive in F1 for decades without really trying". The foreword will be written by Rubens. :)

Anyone else find it ironic that the bulimic Coulthard was replaced by JPM, a guy who never missed a McDonald's Drive-Through? :D

I'm not sure I'd call that a dangerously unhealthy weight. Vomiting after eating is of course an unhealthy disorder and an extreme practice, but I'm 6'1" and 130lbs and I eat like a pig. Some people just have extremely active metabolisms and stay modestly active. I've been trying to break 140lbs for years and can't seem to do it.

Man, you gotta eat. I am 6' 3/4" (6-1) and weighed 160 plus at 16 and thought I was skinny. But I was smoking cigs from 9 years old on and it was hard to gain weight. Once I got away from tobacco my weight went up over 200 and I cant get it down. Anyway, I was pretty active as a kid and I just cant understand how you could weigh only 130 pounds. A good bout of the flu or a good illness could really kick the crap out of you. I got Russian flu when I was 18 and lost almost 20 pounds. Go hit McDonalds or eat a steak or something. One thing I finally noticed is potato chips are really high in calories. Few bags of those a day with a lot a milk will fatten you up, LOL.
