I'm experiencing an issue in which my 02' 360 will not engage into either reverse or 1st (or any gear for that matter). Further, there is an open engine hood warning indicator (not the transmission idiot light in the right ajacent dial). I have opened and closed the hood several times to no avail. Also, when I set the alarm, there is the 1 chirp (armed), followed by an additional 4. Any thoughts?

There was someone else not too long ago with the same problem, I think the sensor that tells you that the hood is open went out. I know there was a way to override the trans, but every time you get below 5mph it will go back into N and you will have to do the override again....

that thread said a tech bent the little lever on the hood sensor and everything worked.

It sounds like the micro switch at the latch is not engaging, possible sticking release cable from main release or emergency/fuel access. To bypass this function to get it to a shop you will need to disconnect the micro switch at the latch.

If your car is a spider, just be careful if you disconnect the micro switch for the hood latch. This switch also tells the Capote (soft top) ecu that the hood is closed and ok to cycle the top. If for what ever reason the hood is not fully closed and the micro switch is disconnected the soft top cover will open and hit the hood even if the hood is released and just resting on the latch. The hydraulic rams are very strong and will keep pushing the cover open until something cracks. Just fome FYI stuff.

As long as you are careful about opperating the top with the micro switch disconnected you'll be alright. If you're taking it to a shopt to get repaired I would put a note on the steering wheel to let the tech or lot lizard know of the situation.

Thanks for all of your inputs. Much appreciated. I'll give the latch microswitch a try. Hopefully, this will allow me to get to a shop. You know, although the F1 system is touted as a leap forward in technology, Ferrari should address this issue (transmission not engaging). I don't relish the fact that having a switch malfunction should leave a Ferrari stranded. I've contacted my local dealer/service and their only reply is to have the car towed-in. This kind of answer does not give me great confidence in driving the car farther than city limits. In worse case senario a continuous beep should suffice enough to indicate a malfunction, but to leave this car stranded (as well as its occupants)...grrr. If I had known of this possible issue I would have opted for the manual transmission.

How is the alignment of the hood/engine cover, I have see ill fitting hoods cause the micro switch not to contact. The beeping and alarm issues would point me in the direction of the hood switch as previously mentioned here. Have some one push down on the hood to see it the warning light goes away.
    Good luck

For this exact reason, I purchased the manual..... I couldn't handle being at an intersection and my $130,000 car won't go and the civic behind me is honking for me to get out of the way........

I had a brake pedal sensor fail on my 04 360 while I was on a drive 2 summers ago and apparently the F1 computer thought my foor wasn't on the brake and all of a sudden it started beeping and a weird symbol showed on the dash and then it wouldn't engage anything and chugged to a stop at a stop sign. It was easy to fix back at the shop, once the mechanic diagnosed the problem. The problem was, I was 40 miles from nowhere on a Sunday drive when the switch/sensor decided to fail. Farmers coming out of church give the strangest looks to a guy in driving shoes, shorts and a tee shirt with the rear hatch open talking on his cell phone, while stalled at a rural stop sign down the road a piece from Church. Roadside assistance was great and told me how to reboot the car and I was able to drive home with only a couple of additional reboots and brake smashes.

Some people would say this is ridiculous for this to have happened on a car that cost as much as it does....... I say it one of the quirks that happens on one of the most technologically advanced road cars on the planet. Its not my daily driver and I really appreciate the complexity of the machine. It is quirky and I kind of like that....

My 06 430 F1 has been flawless for the last year in every respect except a couple of months ago, the HVAC ECU did decide to give up the ghost ........and it did take a little while and a couple of trips to the dealer to diagnose the problem and it ended up needing a new mini computer and driving during July was a challenge (even when you turned it off it blew super hot air) but then again complex machines do have issues......

Every single time I drive it, I recognize the complexity of the machine and it makes me smile......

Actually, if you have your tool kit, you have the tools to fix the hood latch with you!! Fernando at Competizione and Sports Cars on a Sunday guided me over the phone thru the repair fix!! Hows that for service!
You can also hold the "up" paddle and apply the throttle and the car will engage in gear and move. Only problem, when you slow down to a stop it will come out of gear again! ARRGGGHHH!

I started experiencing this hood latch microswitch issue today for the first time and it doesn't want to go away even though I've reconnected the microswitch.

I think this is absolutely unsafe as hell and it pisses me off to no end...
