Just so I'm clear, and I don't at all mean to put words into your mouth, but as I read your post the holding of an "uncommon" opinion is tantamount to being wrong and a troll? I wonder where innovation in technology, medicine, construction, etc., etc. would be if only commonly held views were to be legitimate. Truly no flame intended, just my "opinion".
Apparently this is DF1's opinion, so I got no problem with that (other than rolling my eyes). But trolls do often take this approach and DF1 has a low post count. Not that this is a bad thing, but trolls often have low counts as well (because they're getting tossed after a few attempts) and it makes him harder to judge by.
Ughhhh! I almost choked with my breakfast! The best driver in F1????? And speaking of luck may be we should revisit 2005. The only reason Alonshole won in '05 was because he was in the right car and there was 0 competition. And for the comments seeing Alonshole in Ferrari - This would be the day I cheer for the other team!!!
The car he actually developed over the previous years. As for the 0 competition: 12 of the 19 races were won by drivers other than Alonso.
As I understand it making such a wide statement as LH is "lucky" with no reference to him being a good driver is bound to cause a reaction as I did.. Andreas explained why he reacted ..You told me to take a chill pill well may i suggest you do the same and not simply wind up other threads.
Hey... I got it ! FA is lucky too. Both those WDCs fell off the back of a truck. No real competition the last couple of years. Thats the Ticket !
DF1 ; your opinion, if informed, is welcome. It does not have to be what everyone else thinks. A little spice to the Soup. It just so happens that your opinion of LH is wrong. Hey.. hey...Just kidding
Speaking of Luck ; I remember a Johnny Carson show where he was interveiwing a young but very successful Michael J Fox. Johnny was saying how well Michael was doing to which he just smiled and said he was lucky. At which point Johnny said something to the effect; Its amazing that the harder you work, the luckier you get.
I think you do have to work at creating your luck. Its sad when folk knock you for being good and just because you get the flow of things going your way criticise you as being lucky you have to get yourself in that position first. That can have the luck element right place right time etc.
Luck isn't making Hamilton faster than Alonso. Some of the comments here simply amaze me. I have been following F1 for over 30 years and Hamilton is a once in a generation talent. The last driver I saw that made such an immediate impression on me was one Michael Schumacher. What stands out about Hamilton is not that he is winning races, admittedly you need a McLaren or a Ferrari to do that, what stands out is that he is competitive with, if not outright faster than, the reigning 2X WDC. This is analogous to Ferrari putting a rookie into a car and having him match Schumacher's lap times. Would that not be eye-opening regardless of finishing position?!? It is not the fact that Hamilton is winning races and scoring podiums that is causing people to pay attention, it is the fact that he is outpacing a reigning WDC in the same car. Who cares if he is racing for the win or 10th place, you first have to beat your teammate. Hamilton is beating the best driver in F1 today in equal machinery, that is what is relevant.
+ 1,000 Well that happened not so long ago with Rossi. What? He was several seconds slower? Oh, ah, ahem..., nevermind.
action starts @2.07min in the first video and the great Speedvision onboard with Alonso in second http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fp8Gb4AyIfE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trXBIdZ5Lmc&mode=related&search= No pressure or challenge at 200mph!
I personally have great respect for LH. I absolutely agree that he is THE talent of his generation. What I absolutely disagree with is that this conclusion is derived from the fact that "he is beating the best driver in F1". Calling Alonshole the best is like the people who called JV the best in '97. And where is he right now? Oh, hold on! I get it! According to the commentators on Speed channel during a NASCAR race "the best drivers IN THE WORLD are here today".... He belongs with JV and JPM. I would not be surprised if he ends up there. Then they would need just an asian guy like TS to join them and it would really be ...."in the WORLD"......LOL
Alonso amazes me with his increasingly childish behavior. The guy was complimenting the team for their professional attitude, great atmosphere, etcetera in the beginning of the year. Now that he is no longer numero uno, he is a child throwing his toys out of the pram and creating a big tantrum. McLaren started worked on the 2007 car long before he joined the team - they had an early start because the 2006 season was a lost cause to them. They had probably 5 months effort into it before he even showed up at the door. I believe he first tried out a McLaren close to the New Year and was impressed with the 2006-2007 hybrid. The 2007 Mac was fast out of the box along with the Ferrari F2007. For Alonso to take credit for the 0.6 secs of improvement is a joke. Lewis was matching him immediately. Further proof that the car was great to begin with. His character now seems to be quite similar to Nigel Mansell - bloody whiner. Mansell however is one of my favorites for his stirring drives - El Leone - while Alonso seems to be just plain annoying now. I was a big fan of Alonso's driving thru 2006 but lately I feel like giving him a swift kick in the backside every time I see him.
Imho, anyone watching LH race last year would have noticed he had 'something' and the only question was whether his capabilities were enhanced due to the strength of the team he raced for. It became immediately apparent once this season began, he was going to win races regardless of the fortunes of his competition. Alonso is a phenomenal driver and has decimated every teammate he's had until 2007. I'm still not sold on Hamilton, however, I am on his talent level. He is unquestionably among the elite 4, with Alonso, Kimi and Nico. Alonso STILL impresses with his vice-free skills, his control in rain and his previous unflappability when Micheal was hounding him. No question he's rattled this year and it's lamentable he's resorted with antics I didn't believe he'd ever stoop to. Kimi has bursts of natural talent brilliance but that's exactly where it stops. Focus ? Interest ? Technical feedback ? Without knowing the man or his team personally it's just an impression we have, but for those moments when he is on the limit, you can't help yourself from hoping he wins. He's a magnet. Nico is fearless. And blindingly fast. It's a little early yet, but personally, I see some GV in there along with Keijo. The kid's scary, but like Lewis, it's ALL there. Someone better pony up to Frank, pronto. Massa has a lion's heart and shown speed on a par with anyone this season, but somehow one gets the inkling it's in great part due to the extra year of Scuderia exposure and massaging he's received. Unfortunately, his F1 history is littered with average qualifying and just as average results prior to Ferrari, and that tainting adds to the impression. Heidfeld's probably better. Imho.
Great summation. I am more in Massa's corner than you and would point to his consistently fast qualifying this year as a measure of his increased maturity and talent. I also like Nico, but maybe not as much as you seem to. He has some great potential but neither the maturity LH has shown nor the focus. Mostly I agree about LH. Remember at Indy when he ran within inches of the wall coming into the final straight? The kid has great concentration and balls too. I love that he is quick to smile, remembers his teammates and is not all big headed like many young men who have such early success. I believe he will be a star for many years to come and will be honored and applauded by his team, unlike Alonso who has taken to defensive chest pounding and pouting. Should be a great final series! ps, is that a grifo on track in your avatar? Yours?
