Let's start with the basics first.... Who makes them and which are the best ? Also does the motor have to come out to fit them ?
LMAO. Quick before the Search Nazi's round you up. This is what I have learned, Tubi makes the best replacement. $$$$$ QV London makes the best repair to original equipement. $$ Many alternatives out there. No you don't have to take the engine out.
The headers and muffler are independent of each other--as well as the cats--So you can mix and match all you want... **What about the NAPerformance headers?? I have heard good things--Any one have real world experience???
i'd like to hear some in put on the subject too. my car is in the shop and is in need of headers. I have a set of NA performance headers ordered, but the wait has gone from 2 weeks to 5 weeks to now 8 weeks. Im looking for options. The mechanic was looking at tubi headers, but apparently the tubi headers cant be shipped to US (?) can anyone chime in on this?
Just a heads up the wait changes as we get orders in, your shop called me 3 times to get the current wait and I told them it would only get longer, they officially placed the order when I quoted them end of September, I'm not saying we've never failed to meet our ETA in the past, just not the case here. In terms of Tubi, you can still get them but they are to be sold outside of the U.S., so if I was to sell them I would HAVE to ship them outside of the U.S. Also, last set I ordered took 3 months, so if time is an issue, probably not the best route to take. Other options to take into consideration if time is an issue is QV London rebuilds.
My friend ordered some NA's yesterday and needed them yesterday....... he was told 2.5 weeks to get them, does that mean the wait will be longer???? If it is any longer than the quoted time, other arrangements will have to be made.....
The 2.7 are currently on an 8 week wait, we have a set of 5.2's uncalled for arriving in less than 2 weeks, after that the wait will jump up to 8 weeks+ as we will have to catch up on all the 2.7's before doing anymore 5.2's. The last set of 5.2's I sold was last Thursday and that customer has already received them, so I do not think your friend officially placed an order. Regards, Kevin
I have some real world experience with NAPerformance headers on my 95 355 (2.7). Anyone wanting to hear about it can PM me, I don't want to openly burn anyone on this board. Let me just say this, and I know I'm not alone on this because I have talked with another local 355 owner who has tried to put them on.......Kevin, I can't believe you are still selling those! Have modifictaions been made to allow for the lack of clearance to the alternator?
Did you look at Fabspeed headers? No clearance issues. Check out there website. http://www.fabspeed.com/ferrari_355.html
They sell cat bypass pipe and test pipes for the later year 355?? I thought a CEL would always appear if this was attempted....
I wished that someone would let us know how it worked out for them. I was considering getting one. Just curious, what do you think would trigger the CEL ?
Wow they actually look pretty damn good.. ..... I wonder if they have dyno numbers for those...??? You are right 285, because our 5.2 cars have post cat o2 sensors we will get a CEL. But there are o2 sensor simulators out there for about 35 bucks that should take care of that... !
I second this one. I am chasing my tail with everthing from heat issues, alternator failures due to heat, exhaust leaks, emissions to check engine lights. All after installing these. I would have spent less money buying brand new factory headers and saved a lot of aggrivation. Never again! These were on a 97 5.2
OK.....where can you get the O2 sensor simulators, or do you really need them?? It seems obvious that on the 5.2 with 2 O2 sensors per cyl bank(pre and post cat) that the forward sensor is sniffing the pre cat exhaust flow and the rearward is sniffing post cat exhaust flow..........the different readings between the two is an indicator of cat efficiency. Why not just leave the pre cat sensor in the exhaust flow and externally clamp the post cat sensor to the test pipe(plug the second bung in the test pipe or eliminate the bung altogether)....the second sensor is now sniffing clean outside air which should produce a very acceptable pre/post differential reading. Is the cat ecu smart enough now, seeing such a high differential reading(maybe unrealistic) that it would trigger a CEL???? It also seems that there would be sufficient heat transfer from exhaust pipe to external O2 sensor so as not to cause any problems(especially the ones w/built in pre-heaters)...any views on this??? Lastly, what is the "wide-band O2 sensor" of choice(compatible) for the 5.2??? What would be the advantages of using a wide-band sensor and would all 4 have to be wide-band?? Just somethings thrown out for you to ponder..lol
I would not buy St#@ro headers! If there is any way you can swing it, buy Tubi and be done with it. You have to consider fitment as well as longevity. My Stebro manifolds would not line up with the rear faring and they leaked and there were no heat shields. If you know anybody who can get them-Tubi is you 're best bet. Mark
