After spending a wonderful weekend at Quail Lodge and Pebble Beach during the concours, and spending time watching the Pebble cars touring, I understand that old, rare and decidely beautiful Ferraris are the path for me to follow.

I was literally salivating on a Tour De France on the Lawn at Pebble. The GTO's made my knees week and the Pinifarina 250 Cabriolets at Quail were almost overwhelming. A 166 Barchetta sitting in the pits at Laguna Seca was just so right in that environment. The Piece de Resistance was Jim's P3/4 at Quail sitting next to its archrival Ford GT (Jim you are a true connoisseur). It brought into sharp focus the difference between collecting genuinely rare collectibles and regular production cars.

I have decided to pursue some of these great cars while they are still out there and the consequence is that some of my cars will have to go. It's not that I have lost interest in them, but if I do manage to acquire any of the icons I am in pursuit of, the regular cars simply won't fit in the collection anymore. It's time for a garage sale!

BTW, what are 250 PF Cabs going for these days? I think they are the most beautiful cabs ferrari ever made.

I'd love to sell you the 410SA and your price is more than fair, but unfortunately for you, the 410SA falls into the old, rare and decidely beautiful category of cars that I am keeping. Better luck in another life! :)

    Sounds exciting.

I am sure that many of us here will look forward to hearing of any new arrivals and be sad to see some of the exisiting stable moving on.

Is there a model in particular that you might start looking for?

0713 is a very rare car, one of five in that SWB body, but each of the five were extensively customized making them effectively unique cars. I believe that 0713 is one of the rarest Ferraris ever built.

When searching for rare cars, do you use dealers, personal contacts, or would you hire a broker to do all this work? It seems as though it will take a long time to find all of the cars you are after.

It's really quite easy to find the cars. Negotiating an acceptable price is usually the stumbling block.
Something that can be a bit troubling is that these type of cars are offered by brokers all the time, in many instances without the owner's knowledge. Sorting out real deals from puffery can be time consuming, but there are several well known brokers who have stellar reputations and can deliver what they say they have for sale.
I wouldn't hire anyone to represent me, but in a community this small and focused, buyers and sellers tend to find each other quite readily.

I am very curious what your next car will be...
Looking for the right icon must be a very enjoyable experience, finding the right car must be a thrill.
    These are the true supercars!!

Sorry, to hear you will not sell 0713, I wanted to raise the offer with an extra bag of pretzels, and a stack of baguettes.
(seriously, I wouldn't sell it either, not in any lifetime)

    Have fun on the prowl.

(and change your avatar, the black beauty deserves the spot,(personal opinion).

are you sure, REALLY sure about selling the 365GTS/4? It would look great next to a LWB/SWB California. The finest and best looking open top cars Ferrari has to offer.

Other than that, I applaude your decision to focus your collection on the truly greats of Ferrari history. It would make for excellent reading if you would be so kind as to share your experiences in finding and acquiring some of these excellent pieces. It turns out, you are actually an art-collector, more than a carcollector.

This is good news. I would love to have: a 250 SWB (alloy or Sefac hot rod optional); a PF series 1 cabrio- (is the Paris showcar still for sale- that one is singular in my view); #1777. the Nembo Spyder, or (no *****ing about sacrilege), a cut 275GTB4, aka clone NART Spyder; if you want to spend some serious money, how about a 375 MM plus? The TdF is also quite beautiful. Frankly, I was never enamoured of the 250 GTO and given how expensive they are, you could buy an entire collection of early cars.
You already have a Daytona Spyder, right? A 365 GTS would be an interesting car, as would a Daytona Comp. car. As to early one-offs, I always loved that cabrio owned by the King with the altimeter, but can never remember what car it is- El Wayne knows the car (it was here in NY for a long while, and finally got sold and 'sympathetically' restored). But, if I had to pick just one, it would be a 250 SWB- to me, it epitomizes the best of Ferrari.

    Hey

Alex I wish you the best in your quest and if I hear of anything I'll pass it on. I have found that while great cars are available they don't remain available for long.

The Paris Show car is for sale (as of Quail).

Seeing that you're not willing to part with your 410SA, I offer you not only 10 dollars and two bags of pretzels for the rest of the cars you're selling, but even two bags of original Bavarian pretzels and an original Bavarian Weißwurst. Now is that an offer or what? ;)

Seriously, your plan sounds very exciting. I'm really looking forward to see the future additions to your stable. Thanks for 'sharing' your collection with us! :)

I've asked our corporate counsel to draft a "Save the Daytona Spider" petition to be circulated at our local car events. ;)

In all condor, our community has been profoundly fortunate that Alex has chosen to share his collection and enthusiasm with the hoi polloi.

PS, you might want to upgrade your FerrariChat subscription to "Rosso" as every wannabe broker will be filling-up your "Silver" Private Message in-box.
