Because Kimi was essentially coasting home, he didn't want to break the car and needed the 6 points.

    Spot on.

This is why I said Kimi doesn't have potential.
He only drives the car, not the team.

Any top driver can sign with a top team.
Champions make the team. They inspire, transcend and coalesce
the individual variables into a coherent whole.

Kimi lacks that leadership, I agree. But so does Massa. The difference between them is that one has talent and the other passion. I prefer talent.

If we could merge the two we would get one very talented and passionate driver, who could bring the team forward. And one lazy fool who could drive the Iveco truck. :)

    Priceless!
I think Kimi is very talented but his lack of focus will keep him from a driving championship. The lack of focus happens, imo, as a result of less than complete dedication to the process. Its a very hard job to stay focused and dedicated all the time to a single goal. Thats why champions are so rare. Kimi has flashes of the kind of ability that would enable that success, but they are flashes and not sustained.
And I agree, a Kimi/Massa fusion would be one hell of a driver.
As far as the original question goes, FA, who I don't really care for, has that focus and Kimi would still have less points than FA. And Lewis has the intelligence and demeanor to be a champion and if not this year, I predict he will score one ahead of Kimi.

You all saw the start @ Monza----Kimi rocketed into 3rd....but then lost it during the approach of the 1st apex (he wasn't lined up right) & the lackluster braking point to the lack of concentration or soreness of saturdays wreck.
Any of you every roll in a vehicle, as a passenger w/no wheel to hold onto, & no belts?? Its not fun, & only you know how you feel after that experience!

Kimi was certainly not at 100% and his car was clearly inferior to the McLarens at Monza this year.

I think he's starting to act like a prick, his true colors are of someone totally self absorbed and with not an ounce of care about what his teammate does. Kimi wants to win the WDC for himself, but doesn't look at Massa with callousness the way Hamilton does to his teammate(although Alonso is easy not to like, Hamilton would have the same disrespectful attitude if Kimi or Massa was his teammate also). Hamilton is rather reptillian in his disregard for others and his willingness to make dangerous moves involving others for his own glory.

    +1

and as riverflyer mentions - dedication.

I think Kimi's quite passionate, in a cool, rock+roll way, so the passion
is not exactly translating into that single minded dedication that MS displayed,
    that LH is showing.

    >(Re: LH) I think he's starting to act like a prick, his true colors are of someone totally self absorbed

Quite apparent since the initial, very very oiled interviews, really.
And watch his father ... Another prick. Of course it can be an attribute in racing,
but Alonso will be lucky to escape that gigantic can of worms.

it's really amazing how 2 weeks ago Ferrari whooped the Macs in Turkey, and how Mac made a comeback in Monza. was it anything got to do with that particular gearbox Max were using?

I was in Maranello at the weekend and watched the GP at the Enzo Ferrari Auditorium in the square. 30% of the Italians left after 12 laps! I think they knew what the outcome was going to be :-(

    Who has talent, Kimi?
I can´t understand why so many people says he is so good and a future champion, and definitely he should not be allowed to be a Ferrari drive, with or without talent. Ferrari is a latin institution, moved by passion, with very emotional people that likes to cry, shout and show their emotions. This man is nordic, cold and a bit like an allien....
    Come back MS. please....

Everybody I have talked to who knows Alonso personally and has dealt with him for commercial or racing matters is emphatic about the disastrous influence his father has on him.

After his first WDC victory in 2005, his first declarations to the Spanish press were "I do not owe anything to anybody". You can imagine how well that went down with the Spanish public, sponsors, and racing community. Since then he moved his residence to Switzerland, his workplace to the UK, and has never exhibited much grace or celebration with his countrymen. His behaviour is apparently entirely inspired by his father´s arrogance, as Alonso parrots to the press what the father has been saying in private.

Now the same indications are present in regards to Hamilton. Did you see him come out with his son to the disastrous press conference in Hungary? He had an angry "Son, you tell them!" look. Apparently LH doesn't move without Daddy.

This is anecdotal and has no bearing on the fact that these are two great drivers, IMO far superior (unfortunately for Ferrari fans) to KR and FM. KR with FA? KR with LH? I think that in both cases KR would be running second.

The thing with Hamilton is that he showed enough talent at an early age to get Ron Dennis' attention, thus being thrust into the limelight at that young age, sort of like a Michael Jackson. He appears to not really be in touch with reality, and very full of himself. I'm starting to think that the whole reason why Ron Dennis has been trying to keep him away from the press is because of the fear that Lewis will expose who he really is, which is someone who is on their own planet, and Lewis will not really know that this is abnormal and will put people off in a big way.
