How many times have we all watched the news and the murderer or child molester lived next door or just down the street. "Oh he was always a very nice man" " he helped me whenever I needed" You never know what a person is thinking. Maybe Ron wanted to retire soon and wanted to go out a winner. Who knows for sure? All I can say is if the evidence shows tomorrow that many people at McClaren had studied the documents or even attempted to adapt any of it in part or in whole to their car and that means the tire data and set up too. Then they should be excluded from the season period. They had their chance to come clean and they didnt. Its time to pay up........If the evidence shows what I said above. We will see in about 9 hours. TIC TOC TIC TOC
Is it a possibility that McLaren is using the data to figure out what NOT to put in the car? Hahahaha Actually, if that were true, then there'd be no grounds for punishment. Since nothing of Ferrari's would be on the car, correct?
I think there is way more to possession of the Ferrari information than just speed. In a sport where teams are spending millions looking for a fraction of a tenth improvement then yes speed advantage is hard to prove. However if Ron and Co really got the Ferrari racing bible then they would have pit/fuel strategies and setup data etc that can be used at every race and for a long while to come. There may be races when this gains them nothing but just the fact that they have it and the other teams don't gives McLaren an unfair advantage. You can argue that employees go from team to team all the time. This is true but they also want to be the ones that look responsible for any gain or improvements they make or suggest, and so don't usually advertise accrued knowledge. In this particular case it's kind of hard to believe that Mike C and Nigel S kept the Ferrari info amongst themselves. I guess we'll find out eventually, hopefully soon so we can all move on to the next big thing. I have been a F1 fan since I was about 7 yrs old and still see people complaining about this and that and how it's going to be spoilt and ruined. For the folks that haven't figured it out yet F1 racing is about Speed, Money, Girls, More Money, Ego's, Politics, Gobs of Money, More Speed, Gossip, Scandal, Sexier Girls, Greed, Excess, Technology, Girls with Lots of Money and any mix of the above and more. If you just want to see cars beat each other across the line we have all kinds of oval track racing right here in the good old USA.
I see your point but I think its just got to come down to what can be proven. Thing is, it seems their evidence is data showing increased communication traffic between Coughlan and Stepney during the times DLR was asking Coughlan for info on setup. That would tell me that DLR maybe/probably didnt know it was coming from Coughlan. And I guess the bottom line is even if people have a feeling it could have happened, was it known to DLR and can it be proven? In less than 12 hours we will know. I just hope EVERYTHING comes out once and for all, no more updated information, amended complaints and all that.
Who really cares what has happened ,all i know is that this season is by far the best one in years and if you are a true F1 fan its all about the racing if Mclaren had an unfair advantage why has Ferrrai won any races at all. If F1 loses Mclaren then Ferrari will dominate so much that it will make the whole thing boring again. I love Ferrari but being British i follow Lewis, as Bernie Eccelstone said last weekend in Monza if this story was about Spyker and Toro Rosso it would have been forgotten along time ago. Thankyou
I say a good punishment would be to freeze all development on the Maclaren cars until the end of the season. Maybe even until halfway of next season. Mclaren had an unfair advantage, so the FIA should give all the teams that same "unfair advantage" over them.
Whatever happens today, if any other team than SF had said 'we don't accept the FIA ruling and we're going to pursue it in our national courts', they would have been in big trouble. How can todays verdict have any force, when so much of the 'evidence' has been leaked by interested parties? RD is a racer, who would get no satisfaction from winning illegally; JT and LdeM are corporate men who will do anything to give their company (whose core business is production, not racing) an advantage......but they've gone too far. Paul M
There will be appeals to both the earlier hearing (postponed for this new "evidence") and the hearing today. It will not be over today.
please try to keep up with what's going on, you're wrong in nearly everything you said ... they are pursuing Stepney thru the Italian court RD has never raced a car in his life Lucifer would do anything to win don't worry about that!! Core business of Ferrari is racing, the road cars exist because Enzo needed dosh to race
Er........no 1.McL were 'pursued' at Monza. 2.RD was a mechanic with Cooper and Brabham before setting his own team up which then merged with McL; 'racer' is a Brit term for someone who lives for motor-racing, whether he drives or not, 3.and therefore wants to win by competition, not cheating 4.Enzo built cars to sell to pay for racing; that ended in 1988 when Fiat took over - did you know Enzo was dead? Now the racing is to add glamour to the road cars. You might want to consider being less offensive, and not assuming others are ignorant of (a) current F1 (b) F1 history. Have a nice day. Paul M
I have done some racing over the years and I've yet to meeting anyone who's winning who was above winning illegally....they even have a specail name for it, they call it racing.......until you get caught
Gaining an advantage WITHIN the rules, or mores of the day, including photographing or observing another team or driver on track etc. is one thing - building a deliberately illegal car or spying or stealing another's design are things I don't believe RD would do. He's not my 'cup of tea' as a person, but see: http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_feature_item.php?fes_art_id=32744 from someone who knows him well. Paul M
