Thanks for the update, a Scot in a GTO!

I think that Stroll is a shortened version of his "real name", can anyone confirm?

Could be my faulty memory. I though Jim and Sandy McNeil race with #11 as the car was the 11th GTO. Best, Yale

While we are on the topic of GTOs. Would anyone have any pics of 3589 sitting in the Ohio field with grass growing out of the velocity stacks? I've seen pictures of the car whem it was at the high school auto shop ( I think in TX) as well as after restoration, but never in the field. That had to be a sight, if not a perverse one. I remember growing up in CT in the mid eighties and there was a guy who kept his 300 SL Gullwing in field, and once a year ran a for sale ad for it in the community newspaper asking 2x to 4x what a nice one should be worth. Sorry fo the aside.

What's strange about the day that photo was taken I also saw a group of Warbirds including a B 17 Bomber, partially assembled and rotting away in the woods not to far away from that GTO.

cheers for posting those wayne - had only seen the 1st one before.
quite poignant pics and ones that really do help to show that these were "worthless" at one point.

on a different note, anyone know why the very front of the nose is somehwat different to most other gto's (the shape of inlet etc)

Are you saying those pictures of 3589 were 1989? At the height of the Ferrari market, there was still a GTO rotting in a field? I was always under the impression that was a late 70's event.

Those photos are PRE-1987. In June 1987 #3589 GT was sold to F. G. in Englewood/NJ. The car was dismantled and a restoration started. In July 1988 it was sold to the current owner in Switzerland. I was deeply involved in this case and also did a series of articles in magazines such as "Cavallino" (USA) and "Motor Klassik" (Germany) and "Motor Clasico" (Spain), etc.

Yes just before it sold. I and everyone else in the world was trying to by it. It was sold in some deal that got the $ to his favorite College Notre Dame. ( I think about 1 million+) That was the third one I missed. The first one included a trailer for 6.5K and the second was the one that finished 1 in class at Le Mans for 40K. Stan Nowack was brokering the second one and the first was at either Vintage Car Store or with Bob Grossman. I also remember Mr Chinetti trying to get me to buy a 512S for 20K that he would let me drive at Le Mans. Different times...
