I don't have a lot of patience for people who blurt out bad information when they could be listening, but it's not worth hating. I suppose if I toured the Ferrari factory I would find it hard not to tell anyone I owned one. I think he can be forgiven for the 599 comment. I've never seen a six-speed 599, and I live in southern CA and attend various Ferrari events. Bill, we all know you're a poseur. Get a Tubi already.
Sometimes, when you find yourself being annoyed and irritated by another person, who is not even interacting with you but simply doing his thing near you, the problem may be with you, not with the the other guy. Were you stressed? Anxious perhaps because this was your first visit to the factory? Unsure of yourself in this environment? and then you have this GUY!!. Acting like he knows it all when you are doing all you can to soak it all in. My suggestion - lighten up a bit. Don't make other peoples problems your problems. Let him be. He'll be found out soon enough if he's full of it. Life is too short to wanna fix everybody else. Take care of yourself. That's hard enough to do without complicating things by bringing other people into your own head.
Well said, I find myself in this situation more often than I like lol...At least I am able to recognize it and take action.
They should administer a test for Ferraris, with common everyday questions that one should know. I also hate people who think they know it all, but it is priceless when you correct them and they are like "What, oh I didn't know that"
WERD------STOP BEING A HATER AND WORRY ABOUT YOURSELF INSTEAD OF SOME D0UCHE.......GRANTED THE GUY MIGHT BE A D0UCHE BUT YOUR THE D0UCHE THAT HAS BEEN THINKING ABOUT HIM AND EVEN WASTING YOUR OWN PERSONAL TIME WRITING A POST ABOUT HIM ON THE COMPUTER WHEN HE PROBABLY DOSNT EVEN KNOW YOU EXIST. THIS SPARKS THE CLASSIC DEBATE OVER WHAT CAME FIRST------THE PLAYER OR THE HATER???
Yeah, he might be a noob by your standards but he wasn't a snob. Granted you probably know more about Ferrari than a 7 yr old who has Ferrari posters hanging all over his bedroom, but does that make you the more passionate one? Most people can't even define their own passion let alone judging other people's passion. Why would you despise fellow Ferrari fans simply because they are not as informed as you? Surely nobody was born with the Ferrari Wikipedia stamped into his/her head. Not to mention you might have misunderstood what he said in the first place. The whole rant was about the guy calling a Evoluzione a F40... are you certain he was just making a figurative speech that the F40 came from the 288 GTO Evoluzione? I know if I ever saw an Evoluzione in person I would immediately think of the F40. Hell if my wife were to ask me what kind of car that is, I would probably tell her that's basicly the F40 prototype.
Every 599 has a six-speed transmission; some are manual, some are F1. But they all have six speeds. As for the GTO/F40 situation, was this at what he was looking...? If so, I can't imagine how he could've confused the two. It sounds like the guy is probably new to the Ferrari, and is very passionate about it. We need more folks like him. We all make mistakes, even with the things we love. Hell, most of the Ferrari information printed in books is incorrect. If you ever buy the Roush & Braden Daytona book, Gerald himself will tell you it's full of errors. If he were a Modena or Barchetta owner, mispronouncing the name of his car, then I could understand your gripe. But it sounds to me like you should give some serious thought as to why this guy upsets you.
Perhaps despise was too strong of a word, but regardless, I do not, did not, and will not 'hate' this person. True, I was irritated by his comments, but be rest assured he was never an important part of my life, if a part at all. It is true that I did write a post about him, but it is not because I am obsessed with him. I write about this experience, two months after it happened because I had only today having a holiday, looked at my pics from the trip and saw him, and thus reminded of him; which subsequently made me write this post to share and learn some views on Fchat. Should i be half as obsessed of this 'guy' as you portrayed me to be, trust me, I would've written this post the moment I got home from the factory.
No, the whole 'rant' was not about the guying calling an Evo a F40. Please read. And no, he was not "making a figurative speech that the F40 came from the 288 GTO Evoluzione". If you actually read my post, I admitted that 1) I know very little about Ferrari and 2) subsequent to the first point, I am therefore not that passionate about Ferraris compared to a lot of other people. I never in my post compared my passion for ferrari with his'. Please read. I think you missed the point of my post. I do not despise him because he was misinformed. It is okay to be misinformed, but it is not right, in my opinion, to brag, and brag, and brag about your ill-informed passion/knowledge for Ferrari should you be so misinformed. As this makes you look like a fool. As Ken said in this thread "Forget the "know it alls." Live, learn and, use." Please, if you decide to skim through my post again, at least read this paragraph: Granted, this is purely my own opinion, and as I said before, I respect everyone's opinion to this matter. Hence, I don't mind people criticising my point of view with reasonable reasons: e.g. "we all make mistakes and get over hyped sometimes, give the guy a break" or "people are different, live with it" etc. What I will not take, however, is people skimming through my post carelessly, not registering the point, and coming on here criticising me for something I did not mean - something you had demonstrated very well. I must thank you for this because you provided my thread a walking example - someone who is misinformed but comes out speaking the loudest.
i thinks he was ruining your tour and you should have brought your mute bottom....five years ago i didn't anything about ferraris...now i know that the DINO was named after ENZO'S son...iam way too busy to read all the history about ferraris, although my library now consists of 8 ferrari books.don't forget that when ferrari build these amazing machines a lot of them to people who just wanted a own one for the sake of saying i made it, i am high society.i don't know how much THE SULTAN OF BRUNEI knew about ferraris............cheers
I have heard a lot of things from these experts and I just kind of laugh to myself. This happens with Harleys and boats all the time. I guess it really doesn't hurt anybody and so what some guy wants a minute in the sun even if he's wrong. Sometimes it is really funny.
Wow...I deal with this topic daily and I've narrowed it down to three: The Confused Enthusiast-"How many Ferrari's does Lamborghini make every year?" Weird, but hey....let's chat The Misinformed "Expert"- "I know Michael Schumacher still drives in Indy Cars" Way off, but here's a book that shows where you got tripped up. You can usually turn this one around and you're back to chatting about Ferrari and F1 Money for Brains- "You shouldn't work here if you don't know my F430 has twelve cylinders. All Ferrari's have twelve cylinders!" These are the rarest. You usually have to break out the book again and even that doesn't work sometimes. The person who made the last comment did own an F430. He gave me a tour and still didn't believe it had eight when we looked at the engine. A wad of cash doesn't equal knowledge ....for the most part, F/Car enthusiasts are the greatest....actually, gear heads in general. Yeah, there are some real bad apples, but I've seen so many times when guys/gals have gone out of their way at shows and in ordinary parking lots to give "Joes" like me a taste of Ferrari. They more than make up for the morons
Guy sounds like a poser. Probably drives up and down the boulevard at 15 mph with his top down trying to impress all the skirt. Pretty cheesy.
Okay, I'm 13, my name isn't Jim, and even *I* would know that car. -- Daytona Assaults Engineer Team Ferrari 2100
