OK. Enough. I'm cleaning up this thread and I'm locking it. Joe and Jas, without pointing any fingers, KNOCK IT OFF, please? DM
Morning F40 Fans. Thread is now re-opened. I have assurances from all parties that no more hijinks will occur. PLEASE STAY ON TOPIC. Any more posts of personal attacks will be met with swift and stern action. I got my finger on the banning trigger. It needs to stay civil in this place, and in this thread. I'm assuming we're all adults, so act that way. ANYONE who posts a personal attack, or a post that starts a flame war is gonna get time out on the steps. Now, have fun, play nice. Dave
Yes. It is ISBN 3-905268-04-3. The text is by Pierre Dieudonne & Jean Sage in cooperation. Photographs are by Pietro Carrieri. Cavalleria is the publisher. You can view it on www.dacorsa.net and elsewhere. A definitive book on the original F40 LM which includes the 2 USA F40s that the factory allocated to become LMs. Each chassis number is noted. Youre the best Jim. Ive appreciated your valuable insight into the development of the USA F40 during the homologation process using the prototypes, and to have you share your technical knowlege and old images here is truly an honor. After speaking to you, I appreciate my F40 even more. Keep us posted of your new venture as Id like to share when youre ready. BTW, I remember the 512 BB LM you now run from back in its old days when it was owned here in California by Dr Ron Busutil. Bill Gojkov who looked after it fired it up inside the workshop at a moment when I was standing 3 feet behind it :-0. I have never been the same since and the effects are clear to see on this thread! LOL. Look forward to your F40 images.... Meanwhile here is the F40 LM formerly owned by the French Aldix cartoon illustrator Albert Uderzo. Image courtesy of Bonhams. My favorite pics thus far! Thanks a bunch for posting it, Joe. OT question.......anyone know if the Matsuda Collection acquired a FXX? Thx in advance.

here are some of the pictures. I apoligize if they are grainy as they are kind old. This is the first F40 to arrive at FNA. This was the car for the 1990 new york auto show. If you look close, you can see some differences from this car and a true USA F40. I am still going through my archive of pics and will post more. best regards, Jim Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
A few others, pic 1 is of the Ferrari test mule F40 that in its final days at FNA was used as a demonstration car at a few ferrari events. Pic#2 is a nice pic of a 288 GTO owned by a famous client that I just happen to come across in my files. regards, Jim Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Better than have them collect dust, and it is my pleasure.... I still have a bunch that I have to dig out. best regards, Jim
Jim, Words fail.... Firstly thanks for the effort in scanning and posting. There it is, the 1990 New York Auto Show car (shown on the stand in post 91). I can see some differences indeed: foglights in the rear valance as per the European cars, front chassis extension not yet braced, air-filter housings in wrinkle-black, European seats... I appreciate the importance of these pre-production homologation prototype cars and what they mean for the rest of the series: they made the 'ultimate' sacrifice so that the series could materialize. My 1971 Miura SV is the one-and-only homologation prototype for the USA series of just 21 cars, but thankfully it wasnt crash-tested and it survives today. You guys must have been so excited when you first saw that F40! Im sure doing all this has brought back fond memories.... Clearly we've just scratched the surface with the subject matter and this original and hitherto uncovered material is very much appreciated. Joe www.joesackey
Jim, I met John Masterson on the 1999 Road & Track photoshoot of my ex-Shah of Iran Miura SV. His Daytona was breathtaking and I gathered that any car he owned was just immaculate so he must be good for your car's provenance. I cant wait to see what F40 historical images you come up with next... Joe www.joesackey.com
I took the headliner out today (after some cursing) so that Luis can refurbish it using glue which will ensure that the off-white perforated vinyl doesnt ever sag in places again, and it remains affixed snugly to its carbon-fibre panel showing all the contours it should. Meanwhile the view up there is pretty cool with cross-bars and naked carbon-fibre.... One of the two f40LM that were delivered by FNA, and a exerpt from the pre-production f40 tech manual with a couple of notes thanks to one of our factory friends. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Maybe a little off topic but I thought I might share these with you. Pic of nigel Mansells car and the FNA service crew before delivery to a US customer. And since we were delivering this car to a dealer, we thought the car should have a proper window label with all the specifications shrunken down to the windscreen size. the guys at the dealer could not believe it....
