I did the owners club hill climb (non competatively) the other day and whilst doing a fast start with the traction kicking and out this washer type thing fell off my car (coin is for size comparison).

Car seems to drive the same. What is it?

I might be wrong but it looks like a suspension spacer/shim to me - used around the wishbones for wheel alignment. Suggest you get the car up on a ramp & check - if it is what I think then that may mean you have something loose under there.

    Good luck

Yes, certainly looks like the alignment shims on my previous ferrari. They are
held in by the bolted u-brackets that hold the lower A-arms, for example.
If you are sure it came from your car, then you need to have your
alignment re-adjusted and the bolts torqued.

I have them on my Ferrari as spacer washers used between the rear grille and the steel mounting bracket on the frame. They are used to push the rear grille out. The gap in the washer is abt. 6mm wide.

These kind of shims (smaller maybe) are also used for the adjustment of the windows.

I have no idea about a 456- but the 308 uses those to adjust the alignment of the AC compressor.

It will be interesting to see what he is told when he takes the car in. To me, with that small size, it looks like a body shim. They are used in various places on different cars for aligning sheet metal, door hinges, window mounts, bumper panels, etc. I've seen them in lots of different places. And shims like that are also used in doing wheel alignments on some cars, and in the case of my 308, used for aligning the AC compressor in the mounting bracket.

So, Andy, when you get the answer from your mechanic, let us all know. BTW, any parts of the car seem loose all of a sudden??

It could be very difficult.....it's like looking for a needle in a hay stack.

Yes, exactly. Unless they find something loose, it might be impossible to locate where it came from. Of course the other possibility is that it is not from his car at all, but from someone else's.

It is a Ferrari camber adjusting shim.

BUT, it's not off a 456. They use eccentric adjusters the same as 550 and 575.

I know this for fact because I have seen it at the specialist Ferrari workshop I work at occasionally.

It was picked up by a marshall at the hill climb event. He said it had come off my car, but I guess it could have already been on the track and flicked up by my wheels when I started?

    Got info from mechanic today.

It is definitely a shim of some sort, but not from my car.
