That is currency issued by the Confederate States and dates to the U.S. Civil war (1860's).
Is it real? I don't know.
Is it valuable? I don't know that, either.
I've kinda been hoping someone could direct me to a book/internet resource that would help me determine what the hell it is.

Aside: What the heck is 'National' currency?

I haven't gotten into paper at all but you might be able to find something out here... http://www.papermoneyfacts.com/

National currency in real terms is just money backed by a nation. In collector terms though I think they are referring to the bills that were issued by the regional or state "national" banks like the San Fran $100 you have there. There is a link on the same page above that may explain it better.

Getting the camera ready for vacation but I snapped a couple pics...

The first is the 20 year anniversary Silver Eagle Proof set. First time for the reverse proof, kinda cool. Next are a couple of GSA Carson City Morgan silver dollars (that's a really cool story if you haven't heard it, look it up!). Last is the set of Canadian Hologram Silver Proof coins. The reverse on these is a hologram maple leaf, very pretty but I didn't get a good pic of it.
