Hello all, first post and I admit straight away I'm a wanna-be at this stage, but ownership not out of the question in the future....

But I'd like to know out of interest:

How much does it cost to keep, say a late-model F355 GTB (a favourite) on the road?

How much does a very good example cost these days ($185-200K seems to be top mark)

Are Ferrari's more trouble mechanically and hence cost-wise than they're worth?

What are the other options? Boxter? Cayman?

355 owners tell me about your cars!

    Cheers

HAHAHA....you're comparing newer mass-produced Porkas to what many agree to be one of the more beautiful modern F-cars?

*Sits and waits for the barage of OT posts to come*

If you are looking at close to the $200k mark, you might want to consider older 360s as well as they are slowly getting down to that price range. Perhaps slightly cheaper to maintain as well as you won't necessarily be presented with an engine-out service bill which can make the old eyes water a bit...

But welcome! I'll let the others take it from here.

The correct term is "Gunna"... :)

It's hard to compare a $185-200k Ferrari 355 (seems a bit rich) to Boxter or Cayman. Same price range (around $150-170) you should be looking at a 996 GT3 and comparing that to a 355 - hmmm, seems like i've already had this conversation today.

GT3 will be bullet proof but hard to find one that hasn't bee tracked - not that there's anything wrong with that.

Running costs will be similar - annual service, general maintenence etc. PP might comment on that further.

Look at them all, drive (or passenger) in as many as you can and go with your heart.

Oh, welcome to the nuthouse and fill out your profile.

How much does it cost to keep, say a late-model F355 GTB (a favourite) on the road?

Depends on how much you use it, if you track it, if you can change the oil yourself etc. most cars do 3000 to 8000ks per year, an average cost would be 2-3K per year ( excluding rego, insurance etc).
Don't get the question though - if you can afford a 200k car you should be able to afford to run it. And if you really wanted a Ferrari, it wouldn't matter if it was 10 times that.
This is not about buying basic transport, it's an emotional decision.

How much does a very good example cost these days ($185-200K seems to be top mark)
Good cars 160 - 190K depending on year, colour, convertible, history, etc. 355C costs much more.

Are Ferrari's more trouble mechanically and hence cost-wise than they're worth?
Some models yes, but not 355's which are generally regarded as well sorted

What are the other options? Boxter? Cayman?
Sorry, not an option - I believe they are made by Porsche

355 owners tell me about your cars!
See the model specifc section in Ferrarichat - plenty of info there.

    Regards
    Michael

The biggest problem you will have with a 355 is finding a top example. They are getting long in the tooth and most have suffered at the hands of a string of owners.
There is a reason the franchised Ferrari dealer only stocks one model back from the current new cars.

Who cares, you owned the greatest road Ferrari ever made, its going to be anti-climax after that.

Newer Ferrari's may be quicker, but that alone does not make them better.
