There are two more exhaust that I didn't post cause I didn't have the pics, they are the Capristo and Mille Miglia. So what is really the best exhaust for our car, as some people would ask? I'd also like to know with the following caveats: Not too much noise. I have an ill fitting aftermarket exhaust of unknown origin.
I installed an X-OST last week on my 328. Louder than stock, for sure. Not obtrusive, but loud, in a good way. Looks great. Next day (Saturday delivery) thru Ricambi and priced way lower than the ones I see on eBay. My mechanic said fitment was no issue at all. I've also heard an X-OST on Testarob's TR. Fit & finish are perfect and it sounds amazing. I give it two thumbs up.
Duane. hows the X-ost on the 328 sound like while it's idling, does it have the lower note compare to the stock?
I can only speak for the Larini. It's a good bit lower rumbling idle than stock and not overly loud at idle. It does get fairly loud when you rev it up and sounds great. Lindsey's in New Orleans installed it for me and said it is a very good build quality and installation was a breeze. No mods needed, just bolted on. I bought mine for around $1700.
http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=124323&page=4 My set-up is post #60. Cost a whopping $250, souds great, works great, low rumble at idle & nice sound at normal running rpm.
+1 on the X-ost-from comparison of sound and looks to the tubi. I like the X-ost sound a bit better and it looks at least as good for less money. Jeff
Same setup for me, I've had it for just about a year, no fitment issues, and I also bought it thru Ricambi. Infact I was wearing my X-OST hat today that came with the purchase. Idle has a nice low rumble to it. -Chris
Slightly lower and louder at idle. Gets even louder with higher revs. Unfortunately it's a 3x8 series so it'll never sound like an F1. I wouldn't be too concerned with looks. On the 328 you can barely see the exhaust which is a waste since it is so pretty (for a muffler, anyway). That's one of the things they got right on the 360, the exhaust is right there and you can see it, with the boot open at least. I also had a Stebro resonator put on to replace the stock cat. To be honest I'm not sold on it. I think I might get a Hyperflow. I don't think it has much to do with altering the sound of the car, and now the car is kind of smelly since all those exhaust gases aren't being catalysed.
I run the ANSA on all my cars...it starts out pretty mellow but over time gives a more open sound......it's aluminized steel though as you can see...not the polished stainless some folks like to gaze upon..
I run a Tubi. When I bought it (7-8 years ago), I recall there being only two options, the Tubi and the Ansa. I went with the Tubi as I was looking to accomplish two things: run cooler, and get some space between the muffler and heat shield. The Tubi accomplished both, runs much much much cooler than stock. The added benefits was the sound (deeper, richer and the sound when down shifting...well, same reaction as if you were to peruse the Bikini thread in Back room Lounge), and the look visually it is a work of art although it is behind the shield so you can't see it on my US spec 308 QV. Next up for me is the Hyper free flow cat. Maybe during this winter's work. Phil
I have sound clips of a stock exhaust and and a Tubi on a 328. The Tubi is quite a bit lower, and sounds great. Does anyone have pricing info on all the exhausts listed here?
Ok here is the picture of the Mille Miglia exhaust Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I tried to email the ANSA folks Monday but heard nothing. 1) Is the ANSA sport still available (78 308)? 2) Is it really bolt-on to the point I could switch back to stock for emissions? Seamus (The kid who inspected my car the last couple years stated sincerely he could never fail my car, but I can't count on him working at the Snappy Lube forever . There is no tail pipe testing here anymore but they are supposed to verify no tampering and they use books to check and see what was supposed to be on there.)
I had an ansa on my GT4 it was sweet sounding , but rotted away & actually split in half. I bought a stebro SS, I love the fit, It aint as pretty as a Tubi though, so I painted mine black like a stock. It sounds great & the resonators are removable. I just removed them for the first time after 6 years & wow do they sound great. It has a big block rumble around the neighborhood & a nice scream at WOT. I havent heard it on a driveby without the resonators, with Italian car day this weekend , maybee someone can drive it for me so I can hear how I am annoying the neighbors
Changing your muffler is called ''maintenance', not 'tampering'! LOL! I have the contact info somewhere...IIRC, it ansaautomotive.com or something like that. Yea they do fail after lots of use, but they give me a Fleet User rate, on my Team........ya'll will have to pay retail $$$$$$...
Dude, you live in NC. You can get ANYTHING passed in NC. All in who you know. Joe Formerly out of Charlotte.
I have a stebro and love it, it also came with baffels to put in the exhust tubes but I'll enjoy it for now the way it is, wife says she can hear me coming down the street
I like the sound of my Stebro also but with their customer service rep and recent price increase I wouldn't recommend them. They were a good value at about half what they want now. I've not heard an X-Ost in person but have heard good things about them. I think you can pick one up for less than what Stebro is trying to get these days. I've heard the ANSA sport and liked the sound of it also but not being stainless I don't think it would hold up for as long as any of the others. Paul Barry is the guy at ANSA to contact. PM me if you'd like contact info. I have e-mail and phone. Probably the best sounding 8 cylinder Ferrari I've personally heard was a Mondial with a Borla exhaust but I don't think they make them for 308's anymore. John
