I did read where Lindsey Lohan just got out of rehab. Was she driving the MB SL?

 

So I guess Nick's assessment that his passenger just "Hit his head" is proving to be an understatement. Big surprise.

I really liked Hulks show- "Hogan Knows best" ..... but I don't see how they can use that title anymore.

As a tribute to the young man who is so badly injured.... MTV should cancel the show or at least drop the name.

I"ve met Terry and his family over the years, and he's a great guy, but you don't give a 17 year old kid a race car.

You know something - it really enrages me beyond belief that even AFTER what he did, he went and posted on SupraForums saying "it wasnt a big deal, he just hit his head". That is the absolute EPITOME of recklessness. Not only did he seriously f-up his friend, but he makes light of the severity of it to make himself look not-as-bad?

I really am at a loss for words (at least words that would pass the swear filter). Nick should die in a fire. Seriously.

 

Update on the LA California fatalaties:

Cars racing are now being called a red Mustang convert. and a beige Accord. The mother and 2 daughters were apparantly in a Nissan Altima, which was burned so badly it was misidentified earlier. The green pickup visible in some of the shots was apparantly one of several other vehicles struck by these cars.

The lady in the Altima is said to have just pulled out into the street when she was broadsided by the two racers at high speed and burst into flames. She probably never saw what hit her, IMHO. Rescuers say they never had a chance of getting them out.

The kids racing are said to be 19 and 21 years old and supposedly lived in the same trailer park as the lady who was killed. One is still at large, but names and photos are being circulated. The other is already charged with 3 counts of murder.

Maybe this is a little off-topic to this thread, but my point was just this:

It doesn't take a 75,000 dollar tuner Supra or a 90,000 dollar viper or a 300,000 dollar Ferrari to make one of these tragedies happen.

Just some incredibly bad judgement and stupid behavior.

 

One man died here last week, and was pretty much incinerated as well. Not due to racing, but a speeding drunk driver who ran a red light.

This is so sad. Having had a family member (grandma) suffer for nearly 15 years, it's so much easier to see them go than be trapped. Unless the families son can be taken off life support and live without a respirator, I wonder if the family would choose to keep him alive? I'm praying for a miracle.

Sad to think he wouldn't even be too badly injured if he would have just had on his seat belt.

Shame on Nick for trying to spare his rep online by down playing the incident. Let alone racing? He should have his licence revoked for life, and be banned from participating in anything related to racing.

 

Well, not much difference in the outcome, is there? - Blind drunk, or just plain mad-dog stupid. Both can be prevented.

I had a teenage friend that lingered on as a quadriplegic for about that same time after a rollover in another friend's 65 Corvette. He eventually died in much the same way as actor Christopher Reeve - apparantly there are certain body functions that just fail after a time.

Still love cars, of course - BUT - I have pretty much decided to let go with a full-on rage of protest whenever I hear about one of these. Enough is Enough.

 

+1,000,000 Very very true, I dont think the kids that are street racing even know the consequences. To be honest, the street racing was there earlier, but after Fast and Furious, the kids took on the role of driving like idiots, and it grew like crazy.

 

Disagree, the passenger ruined his own life. Not only by getting into a car with however much horsepower, but by not wearing a seatbelt. What an idiot. Nick helped him and i by no means defend that idiot either but, this guy pretty much sealed his own fate.

True, but if the driver had half a brain we wouldn't have had the accident in the first place.

 

I believe the law is that the driver is responsible for making sure his passengers are wearing seatbelts.......Another strike for Nick.

I think there's a little misunderstanding. This wasn't my family, just someone in the Houston area. But, yes both can be prevented.

Sorry to hear about what happened to your friend. It's tough to lose friends. Very sad.

I have to bring up the issue of seatbelts. I always buckle up, first thing I do. I get extremely annoyed when I see my friends driving or riding without them. I always comment, but usually just get they "yea, I should, but." I sort of have gotten to the point I just don't say anything anymore.

 

More news as of today. The local radio station is saying that the passenger's parents are fighting over who his guardian will be. Seems that his parents are divorced or separated and are not real friendly towards each other. It appears that they see this situation as their meal ticket. The radio said that Hulk is currently paying for the mother’s condo. This info all is coming out in court documents that are being released.

This is going to get ugly and not be over anytime soon.

 

I always wonder why divorced parents can't seem to ever put aside their differences when something serious comes up. Why can't they just settle on equal guardianship? Just doesn't makes sense otherwise.

Pretty pathetic that their greed continues to hurt their families.

For all of the people harping on the seatbelt issue I thought I would share a story of how I almost died.

Several years ago a friend let me drive his S2000. When it came time for us to switch seats he got in and literally pulled off, tires screeching, as the passenger door I was closing went shut. The car was literally rolling as the door was closing. As the tires catch traction we go into an S turn about 30 ft from where the car started. It began to drizzle 30 seconds before and we went into the turn with way too much power going to the rear tires. Sure enough we oversteer like crazy and next thing I see is us heading straight for a 5ft deep ditch. In slow motion we somehow make it over the ditch and the car slides to a stop literally 3inches from an oak tree.

As we left the road and went to jump the ditch the car started to pitch downward and I was certain that the car was going to nose-plant right in the ditch and that I was going to go right through the windshield. Knowing I had no time I braced myself and hoped for the best. Amazingly we got out of the situation as best as we could given the circumstances.

Keep in mind that I am the person who always wears a seatbelt. Even in cabs I buckle up. So while it is likely that this poor kid had an opportunity to buckle up, you can't really know the full story. And the fact that Nick actually put the car on a road knowing that his friend was unbuckled is extremely irresponsible.

 

Are saying that car's aren't dangerous at high speeds? How is the car NOT part of the equation in this accident? It was the tool that was used to commit a crime, build up velocity and kill someone.

You did a great job of ending my sentence at the comma and cutting it short so you could make a half assed remark. There's no need for you to get aggressive towards me when i made you look like an idiot in the smart car thread....

 

Damn it i'm going to sound like a hippie with this buckle uup ****, and no disrespect; But since you seem to be one of the few other people that seems to know the importance of a seatbelt, you'd would know there is always time to buckle up. Why didn't you just put your foot on the brake and buckle up? It takes 5 seconds to do it at most.

I don't think you read his tale correctly. He was the PASSENGER. Hard to reach the brake pedal from there.

 

I think you misunderstand what I said. I was the passenger shutting the door to the car as I was sitting down when the driver thought it necessary to nail the gas while the door was still shutting and as I was still getting into the actual seat. Honda S2000s are very small cars and there is not enough room for me to lurch into the driver's seat and make any difference. The only thing I could have done would be to pull the Ebrake on the slick road and cause the car to go directly into the ditch.

Point being, there really was nothing I could do.
