Ok, so I've decided to add the Bentley Turbo R to my fleet and keep my 308. Too hard to let her go!!

So now that that decision has been settled, I figured it was due time for a little "due" maintenance and some "fun" maintenance.

The "due" maintenance involved removing the rear brake calipers to send them off to a specialist in Seattle to have them both rebuilt, as I noticed a drop of brake fluid under the left rear caliper last week. So with those removed, it was time to tackle test fitting the Ansa Sport exhaust I bought last December that's been sitting in the box on my workshop floor since.

The factory system came off with relative ease, which was a blessing. With that off, I began trial fitting the Ansa up to the car. I did have to unbolt the right rear driveshaft so I could slide one of the pipes underneath it, no biggie...

I'm going to attach two photos, one showing the factory muffler which has a totally different bracket than the Ansa does. Fortunately, a friend is a metal fabricator, so I'm going to have him come look at my setup to see what he can do about making me some nice brackets to mount the Ansa up. Although it's a wee bit frustrating to spend $1,600 on a new exhaust, made specifically for your exact year and model only to find out you have to fab the appropriate mountings to make it work!

Anyways, I'm excited about how the car will sound and respond with the new, free flowing system in place. I had an Ansa Sport on my GT4 and as best I can recall, I didn't find the sound too obtrusive, even on long highway jaunts. Tim Stanford told me that he really thinks the sport exhaust systems help the 2Vi cars with better throttle response and do add a touch more power.......excited to find out!!

I have a Ansa sport on my '76 and the sound is intoxicating. I would not change it for the world. Have fun with it, and of couse you must post a video of the new sound :)

If you have a chance, can you weigh both systems on a bathroom scale or something and let us know the numbers? Just curious...

Haha, well if I owned a scale I'd be happy to. I will say, however, that the Ansa is SIGNIFICANTLY lighter than the stock muffler.
