Hello all, Jawad here, fellow Fchatter from NYC. I lived in Austin around for around 12 years (roughly 1986 to 1998 -- UT class of '98). Life/career issues now have me considering my options for moving out of New York... Though I have yet to decide if or where I will move, I just wanted to get a sense of the Ferrari community in and around Austin (by around, I mean in the surrounding hill country, not hours away like Houston or Dallas, where I know there are a good number of tifosi. I'd love to visit Houston/Dallas for events every once in a while, but I don't want to have to drive 2 to 3 hours every time I feel like taking an afternoon cruise with fellow Ferraris).

So... how many of you are there in/around Austin? I've noticed a few from looking in to this thread from time to time (Lloyd -- you've got a beautiful Testarossa, right?)

What sort of resources, if any, are there for Ferraris in the Austin area... ? (Any good independent service?)

How often are there central Texas Ferrari/Fchat events?

Just looking for your thoughts here, when you have some time.

    Thanks in advance!

    J.

Check out the photos I take at our events in Austin and San Antonio. www.TifosiPhotography.com The photos in my gallery are only from the past several months. We've had a lot more events than what are shown there.

I've heard that we have about 50 members in the Austin area who have about 100 Ferraris between them.

There is a great independent Ferrari shop in town called Moorespeed. The owner David is a consultant here on FChat. They have an SD2 and all the software. They are extremely competent!

We get together at least once a month for breakfast and we sometime go on drives through the Hill Country after the breakfast. We also occasionally have tech sessions at Moorespeed and social gatherings in the afternoon.
    It's a great, non-pretentious group.

There's also another exotic (and they work on everythign else there too) service facility in Austin, Colvin Auto, OUTSTANDING place!

We have some events here but not nearly as many as the D/FW group.

Jawad, thanks for the compliment on my car. We have a good group of folks here and David Moore does a good job of maintaining the cars. Also if you have a warranty issue, there is a Ferrari dealership in San Antonio which is just an hour away. As you know, we are in the heart of the hill country with many great drives in the area. If your plans bring you here, we would be glad to see you at one of our monthly breakfasts.

Lloyd, thanks. It would have been my pleasure to join you guys, but it looks like my job prospects in Austin have not materialized. As of now, it looks like I'm remaining on the East Coast. Of course, if that should change, I'll definitely be letting this section know...

In any event, I keep looking in on here, and I do visit my parents in Austin a couple times a year. Hopefully one of my next visits will coincide with one of your events, and It would be great to attend if you'll have without the Ferrari.

    Best,
    J.

Do you have a picture of the Enzo in Austin? I haven't seen that car yet. Also, let me know when you are ready to shoot the boat pics that we talked about. I'm ready when you are.

You got it! I look forward to meeting up. Also, I was going to contact the local photographer that I have seen listed on this site to see about getting together. His photography is amazing, and I would love some professional photos of my new car. Do you know him personally? Do you know what he charges?

    Thanks,
    Ryan

BTW, do you know who has the maroon colored 355 with an upgraded exhaust? I met him years ago on an Alfa drive and I can't recall his name...really nice guy.

If you aren't referring to me then I'm not sure who you are talking about. I'm not a professional photographer but I shoot as a hobby.

About the Ferrari, I believe you are referring to Tom M. He has a Rosso Barchetta F355 Berlinetta. It was the first Ferrari that I ever drove.
