This car has been for sale (or should I say on sale) for a couple of months now. http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=21&pageNumber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=PRICE+descending&certifiedOnly=false&criteria=K-%7CE-%7CM-_51_%7CD-_32_%7CN-N%7CR-10000%7CI-1%7CP-PRICE+descending%7CQ-descending%7CZ-33139&aff=latimes&paId=241261142&recnum=5&leadExists=true Besides the obvious questionmarks (29k miles seems a bit strange for what -by the looks of it- seems to be a regular driver) Damaged interior, front bumper cracked, not a car that looks well taken care of. I would have to export it to europe and get it back in shape (30k service, clutch plus the above mentioned cosmetics), estimating another $15K. That would still make it a pretty sweet deal. What else should I look for? Am I missing something? Does anyone know more about this car? yardstick ? touch it? Oh yeah , how much for the clutch ? Sorry for so many questions in my first post. Love Ferrarichat though.
Even at 29K, in need of a major and a new interior there must be something more. A PPI is more than obvious, can you check if it was not in an accident with structural damage? All I can say from my very small experience is be very cautious... Just my 2 candian ¢...
My best advice would be to buy the car in Holland. Dont forget you need to add shipment cost and a couple of taxes before you have it licensed. Don't look for cheap prices, look for cars that have full known maintenance records as a minimum requirement. I would be VERY suspicious about Ferraris that dont look well taken care off. Furthermore, it will forever be a US model which is generally less appreciated in Europe. That could get back at you when you would sell it again at some moment. Good luck !
Thanks for the advice guys, I'm guessing "salvage title" means that the car was totaled and rebuilt ? I am a regular visitor of the US and A and with the current exchange rate importing a car is becoming very attractive. (even with transport and our 30% taxes and duties) Guess I will just keep looking, taking my time, thanks again. @Franc, I think you're right about the resale value of US models but it would be a keeper for sure! (mooie 308 trouwens!!)
In the immortal words of Keith Martin " this is a fright pig". I think this car could easily soak up another 20K+ and you would still have a crappy car with a salvage title. Dave
Possibly the worst 328 I've seen. But, for the FChat post'ers who claim that you can get a 328 in the $30K range, now we know that they were right.
Best way to deal with that car would be to try and knock off a few more $$$ and just drive it the way it is.
Buy the BEST car that you can find and afford, NOT the cheapest. A Ferrari in great condition will be a terrific experience that you'll never forget , find a great car, it's worth the effort !
Problem here amigo is someone will buy it at that price, add some "armour all" and not knowing any different ..........brings a near perfect 328 like yours down to the same price. This is what the real problem is.
I'm pretty sure this car has been discussed on FChat before. I believe the price was $34K 6 to 9 months ago? I dont remember anyone saying it was salvage before, but the condition its in it doesnt surprise me. If I recall, the interior was really bad, and now that know it was salvage, maybe it was an underwater/flood/hurricane car? James in Denver
+1 I thought I'd seen it before on Ebay. My thoughts exactly, if it hasn't been underwater, it's been sittin' outside in the rain w/ no top maybe I'm really not as scared of salvage as alot of people. I've owned my share of it. But, flood cars...never again.
