Trying to improve the overall sound of my 79 GT4, without ruining the original nature of the car. Has anyone removed the "honeycomb" mesh insert material (not sure what else to call it) in the exhaust tips? Would it make a difference in the sound in your opinion? Can it be removed in one piece and saved for originality or will it be trashed?

If they can be removed in one piece -- best method for removal?

PS. Cats will be replaced with hiflow pipes as a first step

Unlikely to make any difference. The mesh can cause a whistle sound, so some will cover it with thin, stainless steel sheet metal, and while it gets rid of the whistle, does not change the sound or tone.

I put in ss bypass pipes on my 78 308GTS, it did not make much change in sound, just a bit louder. Got them from Nick's Forza Ferrari.
