To most the following would be no-big-deal, or maybe even somewhat odd.

    But....

Today was one of the most memorable and happy days I've had in YEARS.

On my feeder today I saw a White Breasted Nuthatch, a Brown Headed Nuthatch and a Red Breasted Nuthatch. (not at the same time) I couldn't believe it.

The last time I saw such a remarkable thing was about 20 years ago when, on a Droll Yankee feeder and the adjacent tree, I has simultaneously a Eastern Bluebird, a Scarlet Tanager and a Goldfinch, what a sight that was!

It's usually the little things that make you smile. :)

I was watching a new show I found on ESPN called E:60, and a segment on this particular episode was about North Carolinas mascot who was tragically killed last year. The kid had so much going for him, with a strong Christian faith, singer in a Christian rock band, etc. This kid was so young, yet already had the well-being of others in his heart. If I remember correctly when he turned 18 and renewed his drivers license he marked down to be an organ donor. Thanks his gift, he helped save and improve the lives of nearly 50 people. A few of which, were in extreme need of certain organs and on their death beds at the time of his tragic death.

Hearing all of their stories and seeing them feel happy, yet have guilt at the same time was deeply saddening. I was choked up the whole segment. But I sat back and thought about it, and began to smile. This one young man, decided he would give his body as a gift and wound up saving and touching so many lives. It reminded me that I believe my dad's mother, whom I never met, donated her organs. I've also decided to mark myself as an organ donor the next time I renew my license.

I really like birds, too. I bought an Auduban Society's 'Field Guide to N. American Birds' several years ago just so I could identify some of the day-to-day birds I see.
Lots of 'serious' birders in this area (not me).

I saw that too and had the same feelings. It was a powerful segment. So sad yet...so many lives have changed.

This summer almost everyday I would see hawks sitting on the back fence. My neighbor said they were red-shouldered hawks, there were 3-4 in the neighborhood. It was fun watching them. One day one swooped down about 10 ft from me to grab a lizard hiding in the bushes. I haven't seen them in a while though.

Very much so. It's sad that it hasn't made national headlines. But, since when does the national media like to show positive, life changing stories?

A White Breasted Nuthatch, Brown Headed Nuthatch Red Breasted Nuthatch, who've never actually been in the same place at the same time are hanging out on a limb of a cliff, where all 3 have nests.

Unable to maintain the weight of all 3 plus their nests and eggs, the limb begins to give away. The Brown Headed Nuthatch says, "One of us is going to have to let go or our nests will fall, taking our eggs with them."

The Red Breasted Nuthatch gives a long, impressive speech about how she has lived the most and that she will be the one to let go.

Eager to impress, the White Breasted Nuthatch ate her young and said, "there, with the eggs gone, now it's lighter!"

Cool, i"m not sure what those birds are, except for the goldfinches... One time as a kid I was exploring at the creek in the woods behind my house, and I passed a honeysuckle tree and got a big surprise.. I accidentally scared a FLOCK of goldfinches out of the tree! It must have been about 70-100 of them. It was AMAZING. :)

Great music that makes me smile is a big one. I dug through my music library and have been listening to Creedence Clearwater Revival nonstop the past 2 days.

The last time my boyfriend and I got a hotel on the beach. We sat on our oceanfront balcony with martinis and shared comfortable silences. I broke one by telling him I was happier that moment than I've ever been, he agreed. I got the little fuzzy feeling. :)

My cat makes me really happy, too. Especially when he gets in bed and snuggles with me in the morning.

95 yard knock-down pitching wedge into a 30mph wind to 5 feet. One hop and stop. I am still smiling.

    I did.

However, I still lost the match. The guy I was playing whipped me like a red headed step child.
