i wanted to share a photo of this vintage model of vintage ferrari - a 156 F1 i was hoping some of you may identify the car by its number or some other feature i'm not aware of what can be s/n of original? (copyright: wojciech jurecki) Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think what you have there is a Lesney 1/56 scale. I found an article in Road & Track, March 1966, called "The Automobile in Miniature" which has a small black & white picture of this car bearing the #73. The car has a driver in it. Matchbox = Lesney. Same thing. I didn't know that, not my area of expertise. Google it, pictures on ebay. The actual Ferrari 156 "sharknose" never wore that number in a Grand Prix event. It looks like it just competed in the Sahara Grand Prix!
Yes, that's the Matchbox (Lesney) Ferrari; it would have had a plastic driver figure and long exhaust pipes when new - see: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/d.jones7317/public_html/1index/73b.htm It can be fitted with smaller front tyres and a crash-bar made of wire to make a more accurate-looking car. Here are a couple, modified and repainted: http://img93.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hilltrips4gg.jpg Paul M
I dont't think this is Matchbox, the tires dont look right to me. I have a similar car from the same era which is in nearly perfect condition which is why I was attracted to this thread. The Matchbox version has a little driver in the cockpit as well. Best Jon
That`s definately a well worn Matchbox car. I have one right here in my collection, although mine is Mint. I still remember scraping up the 33 cents they cost back in the sixties, getting on my bike and going to L.H. Martins to buy one. I used to be able to go to a candy store when I was a kid on Long Island and buy the old discontinued Matchbox cars for a quarter each. I sure wish I still had those cars now.
It's a Lesney, here's a picture of mine, well now it's more the property of my son Mattthieu... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
