The episode with the switching 308s is called Italian Ice, the one where Magnum kidnaps the girl from Sicily. They show the euro car when Magnum is checking out the revenge scratch on Robin's 308.
Nice thread. I like the idea of a slightly darker Magnum. At the time of the original series I got annoyed by how amiable Magnum was and wished that he asserted himself more. It would need to be set in present times with Selleck playing the main character and I would love to see the 308 used in the film but his main car would need to be a modern Ferrari and the F430 would make the most sense although I would love to see him using an F50 (not the wooden one!) They could even kill off Selleck in the movie as a twist and this could tie in with a son connection and I just don't see Cage being the right fit even though he is very talented.
There were some "dark" Magnum episodes. Some of the best in my opinion. "Did you see the sunrise," I think was one title. (Notable for the Ferrari getting blown up). Also the killing of Ivan. Of course the best was the one with the aborted assassination of Col. Qui. Very dark... In my opinion showed the greatest depth of the character in the entire series.. Just my opinion...
Just found this thread. Regarding who should play Magnum, that's easy. They guy with the most chest hair
I haven't had time to peruse this entire thread, so pardon if this has already been posted. As many of you may know already, Tom Selleck has been added to the cast of "Las Vegas" (Friday nights on NBC), as a somewhat mysterious, ex-military, super rich guy who buys the Las Vegas casino that is the center of the series. He seems to add a lot to what previously had been a formula-type series (of course I may be saying that because he is as old as I am). For those who might have wondered how it would work with Selleck reuniting with his old "Magnum P.I." buddies, this Friday (10/26/07), the series has Selleck's reuniting with Roger Mosley and Larry Manetti. They play billionaire buddies of his character, "Cooper," in their annual poker game. Probably just very short cameo appearances, but it should be fun.
I was watching 'Chuck' tonight (NBC show) and it struck me that Zachary Levi (main character, Chuck) would make a great Magnum! I know he's young but he's got the looks, comedic timing, and physical presence for it. At least that's my impression...thoughts?
I watched "Las Vegas" last night, I must say it was a perfectly aweful show, but it was good to see the Magnum guys together again, I thought it was interesting that Higgins was written in as the "English Billionaire" buddy poker player, but alsa no John Hillerman, also it was at least a little neat that they tied in Rick and TCs charachters backgrounds into their Magnum Characters (they seeemed to have a photo of the Island Hoppers Huey 500. SO to sum up- sucky show- but put that cast together again I'll watch it
It was cool and I loved the throwbacks to Magnum - Larry made his money in the nightclub business and Roger started out in helicopters. I hope they keep this up with the show. It's the closest thing to a reunion we will probably ever see.
..Yes..the "Magnum,p.i." trio was together recently on "Las Vegas".. A friend mentioned..he was watching the the tv series "Las Vegas"..and to his surprise Tom Selleck..Larry Manetti..and Roger E. Mosley appeared together in that week's episode. Thought i'd check YouTube to see if there might be a clip..and while I was there..ran across an interview from 2007? with Tom..Larry..and Roger. Some interesting comments near the end.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-kksKWW3Mc&feature=related ..and while i'm at it..thought you'd be interested in this one too.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSC-d9mqZso&feature=related
If it's a movie, I would like to see it in modern time with Vince Vaugn playing magnum. Stong leading man, size & strength, good looks and funny personality just like Tom had. If they did a TV series I would like to see it made in modern times, Josh Dumal (Vegas) being the nephew of Magnum. Josh already has history with Tom on the show Vegas and with better writers it might make a good spin off show from Vegas. Kind of like Cheers/Fraiser. Must have a Ferrari though, its essential.
I would like to see Tom S. in the movie with a F430/F50. We who watched the show, know kind of how Robin thinks. He had nothing but the best, cars (308), household goods, and jets to name some. So if it was an updated film, we would think Robin would be up to date as well. I don't think any other actor can pull it off. Look at Star Trek, it was so exciting watching the original actors in the film. There are so many story lines to come up with.... Maybe have the show using the F430 or F50 and have the 308 still there, because Robin likes his fine cars. Why would he sell it. I like that Youtube interview. Tom seems like a stand up guy, glad I'm a fan. I have always thought that as well. If I see Tom, I would say make a Magnum film, or mini series for TV, because 2 hrs is not enough for me.... I would rather the 308 stay out of it, so prices won't go up. At least until I get one lol Plus due to film uses of cars, there will be more 308's off the market, maybe 2 saved from close the up shots. PS I have to get one real soon, this yr if all goes well
Sorry but I doubt that I would go to see it anyway. The Thomas Magnum character is so etched into Tom Selleck that no matter who plays the part, there will be a comparison to Selleck. I fear they will ruin the Magnum PI series without Selleck playing the part. I would rather wait another few years and see a more mature (if that's even possible for Magnum) character of the guy we all grew up watching. Just my 2cents. J
Well stated.. I did a bit more digging and found this.. http://www.starpulse.com/news/index.php/2007/05/16/tom_selleck_rules_out_magnum_p_i_movie_c A couple of quotes that really sum it up: "Thank you Mr. Selleck....great to see that there is still integrity alive and well. I will remain a big fan." "I agree totally. Mr. Selleck, as usual, is a class act. Besides there is only one Magnum and it's not George Clooney." An interesting note.. Near the end of recent interview with Tom(link in previous posting)..he chooses the words: "..we wouldn't try to pick up where we left off..we'd try to pick up some years later.." Selleck IS a class act..and he wants to see a quality job done..
Mr. Selleck is a gentleman and a class act. he is of the same metal John Wayne was made of, and those with such qualities, both as actors and human, are truely rare. i would only wish a new movie could be made that would be true to the parameters of the old series, and have the blessing of the WHOLE starring cast. otherwise i wont give it a second of my time, nor a penny of my money. MRM
..some more digging found an "on-line petition"(with 2000+ signatures)to bring back the original cast members: http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?magnumpi&1
FYI.. I was doing a Google search for info about the Magnum,p.i. movie.. and was surprised when I found page 9 of this thread in the listings.
Sounds like Tom is willing to do the movie..if he's asked. Here is a link to radio station interview: http://www.tmz.com/2007/05/18/tom-selleck-magnum-p-i/
