Having heard the rave reviews on Jason at Xcaliber Detail, I decided to give him a try on my '72 Daytona. I live in the Santa Maria area, so he had to drive up from Camarillo.

He arrived just before 9 am, and began his work. Car was pretty good already (or so I thought), but had a lot of surface scratches in the paint. Paint is about 15-18 years old.

Boy, that Son of a Gun can work. He didn't finish until 11:15 at night! That's a long day by any standards! He did some test buffs at various places around the car and then began with a wipedown (car had already been washed). Then the claying, followed by three rounds of increasingly fine compound. That, finished with a good coat of carnuba wax.

Results, below were outstanding. Paint looks three inches deep, no swirl marks, smooth as a baby's bottom. The pictures below can not do justice to the look of the car.

Thanks, Jason for your care, expertise, and hard work.

Lots of soot outside. Car is warm and safe inside. Probably still getting some bad air on it, though.

Bicycles are WELL strapped in. No chance of falling, but easy to run into with upper body or head. Need to find a better spot for those.

Anyone notice the weird elongation of the rear end of the car in the last picture? Must be distortion due to wide angle on the lens. Should have shot it from farther away and used telephoto range on the zoom.

Beautiful car!!!! Nice work on the detail too!

I noticed the use of a double-headed buffer... what's the thoughts on these as compared to a single (8" I think)

    Shiny Side Up!

Shelton has a very low convertible for 1,400,000. It has under 500 miles. Keep that paint shiny, it may be worth a ton in a few more years.

Very shiny now 1973 Euro Daytona. The wood steering wheel is a nice touch. Stock exhaust? Daytona looks great but nobody even mentioned the clean 'look' you get without the bumpers attached...

Car is a 1972 Euro, SN 16333. Came with a leather wheel as standard. I bought a wood one, 'cause I like that look. Exhaust is "stock" except I removed the center mufflers and replaced them with pairs of straight pipes on each side. I also had a crossover "X-pipe" installed on each side to avoid a torque "hole" caused by loss of beneficial mixing which occurs in the first muffler.

I kind of liked the look without the bumpers and other chrome I removed for the detail. But I also like originality so all of it went back on.

Thanks for all the nice comments. Paint is about 15 years old, but looks brand new now.

The 275 GTB models are seen without bumpers to good effect to. Very seldom do you see a Daytona without bumpers. I checked the profile and it said 1973...slip of the finger? Euro gets larger exhaust manifolds and no smog so you have a nice 'find' on this side of the pond. Do you have a shot of the wood wheel? The leather wrapped wheel seems to be split between 2 holes in the spokes and no holes in the spokes. 1973 and later seem more common with no holes in the wheel spokes. Daytona interiors may not be fancy but they do look very tasteful.

    Soon... Another Challenge!?:D
Yes!! Dual head Random Orbit Buffer (Cyclo). I love it so much, I have 3! As far as ROBs go, it's the best. The single head polishers with 8" heads are rotary buffers. (Dewalt, Mikita, Hitachi) They are powerful and efficient. I have the Dewalt, but don't use it unless there's some serious paint damage or large details. I've been able to use the Cyclo and achieve total paint correction.

Todd, thanks man! Much appreciated. Yup, I love the Cyclo!:D

It's interesting to see people still in love with the Cyclo. I've used both the Cyclo and the Porter Cable and have become partial to the PC. I like having only one head to have to maneuver around things. Regardless, great work.
