Obviously... it's kind of like the boss who gets pissed that you aren't doing your job correctly and fires you. You still did something "wrong" but were not totally aware of it, if at all.

Hence, the initial damage can be equally his fault while the distruction of the marriage is really in her court. Sorry if I didn't make that distinction.

i think a man or woman knows when he/she is doing something that blatantly attacks a relationship at it's core. but it sounds to me like in rivees case there was no smoking gun so to speak. in other words, there wasn't any one or more "things" he could have changed to make any difference. if what i read from his posts are correct then he didn't have a chance to right what it was in her mind that was wrong. am i wrong?

No, I don't think your wrong. While I am no counselor, I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, and I agree that it seems as though he had no chance to fix anything and therefore there was little he could do. Worse, it is quite possible that she was thinking of leaving long before the affair. Too bad some of us in the human race can be so damned selfish!

While I do believe that he may be able to dig deep and see the things he may have done to precipitate his wife's original dissatisfaction in the marriage, her lack of respect for the marriage is most likely far beyond anything he did or didn't do.

Note to rivee: I hope I none of us have offended you by our dissection of your marital difficulties, especially as we really know very little about your situation! Thank you for your openess with this.

On the contrary, I welcome any or all responses as it gives me an insight as to who, or maybe a better term should be "what", I was married to for 14 years. It also gives me some future "criteria" in choosing my partner in the future. Like they say, "If you don't learn from the past, you're doomed to repeat it".

It gets easier and I get emotionally stronger each day, and reading these posts from my Ferrari brethren strengthens me as well. I honestly can't remember having felt like this before ever in my life. Even when my previous marriage was in the drink, I somehow knew the breakup was inevitable at some point. But this one is a real gut twister for me. Maybe because I finally thought I had found a partner whom I could trust, and not have to worry about them seeking someone else.

I hate overly jealous people and have refused to live in a constant jealous state of mind.......and so the two-headed snake turns and bites me smack in the a$$.

It's funny, the first few days of this matter, I kept thinking it was a bad dream and would soon wake up from the nightmare and everything would be fine. But I haven't slept in long enough periods of time to even have dreams, bad or good.

    Pretty pathetic, eh?

Nope, I don't think it's pathetic at all. A real relationship is a risk, no doubt about it; but like many financial risks, the big risk can be quite rewarding.

As for it seeming like a bad dream, been there! I once had to call the police to have a girlfriend removed from the bathroom of my parents home, where she had locked herself in while in possession of a knife. It was all very surreal, as I am sure your current situation must be. The death of a relationship can be very traumatic, even if it's a bad relationship. Needless to say, I don't envey you!

Hang in there, it will get better!

    i bought the house.
Now if she wants to get married she must to pay it. Later if she wants the divorce...she will regrets to pay the marriage.

Sounds like a good plan. The only thing is it doesn't work like that here. Buying the house and her getting half is part of the guy's duty. And if divorce or split, she gets a pay day. If she's smart she'll already have the next one lined up ;)

Why do you think they call them housewives here in the USA? Because they take your house from you.
