355 30k costs

Sounds to me like you got hosed! What else did they do, the valve guides? The major should be around $6k, clutch $2k. I would think what you got done should be more in $10K or less range.

 

Major goes 6-7 K; shocks, interior trim replacements, clutch, brakes and tires will boost the price a lot, but 13K? sounds too high to me.

 

I'd say considering all that was done. The price seems ok, maybe a little high. Did they do the valve guides? Typically, a clutch job would run around 2-3k alone. It is not usually associated with a 30k because it is accessable w/o removing the engine. Scan the bill and post it here. I'm sure the real experts will give it a full breakdown.

Interesting that they gave a discount for cash. Why? Pretty much everyone pays with cash. Are you talking about greenbacks? Does this shop have some kind of tax scam going on? Sounds fishy to me. Good for you though for getting the price down. Doesn't sound as bad at 11K.

 

a new water pump that is not reconditioned is 1K just on its own. The stuff ads up fast.... price seems OK but not great.

 

Would have to agree parts add up fast those CV joints are in the 1000 to 1200 range per side. Gotta do this stuff yourself if want to safe money. regards, vern

Good service and reputation costs money. And it is worth the money in the long run....

I don't understand the cash thing, unless he just didn't want to argue the invoice.

 

You came out better than I did, Todd. My engine out service last year ran over $20K ($13214 to replace the belts, water pump, fluids, etc. and $7854 for the clutch job). I probably should have gone to an independent rather than the local authorized dealership.

He is the best in So. Cal. Compare his prices with what you had done. Eugenio cannot be beat. I will never go anywhere else for major service.

The best thing about him and his service is his after sale appeal. I still get e-mail's from him asking how I am doing and how my car is doing. He is always willing to help out with little things.

You just cannot find this kind of service anymore and it is so very refreashing.

Look at his web site and compare your invoice to what he has quoted there. I bet if you call him, he can add more detail. Be prepared to talk for awhile though. He really enjoys his craft and really loves Ferrari's

Sounds fair to me. In calendar year 2007, I have $27k in my 348. But that's a whole different story.

 

Eugenio's the man! Just for the record, he is an engineer by education. So, understanding the technical issues of the mechanics in these cars is elementary for him. He is a brilliant guy. It has nothing to do with the competition, he doesn't have any, it is just that he is a truly honest, fair and committed guy.

 

Wow...I think I should move to Si Valley and start fixing Ferrari's!

Sounds expensive to me, but I do not know what would be normal for a 355. I had the major service done on my 348 last summer including fixing the a/c pipe that runs from the front to the back of the car and refinishing all four wheels and it was less than $5k. This was at an independant shop.
