Have both -- bored out 73 4.9 Bora with as many performance tweaks as possible, and 83 Boxer with MSD ignition and tubi...both are great fun in their own right...would describe the feel/sound as italian muscle car vs italian race car...bottomline for me: the feel and sound of that 12 cylinder boxer motor is tough to compete against!

to the point of the previous post, i remember the first time i heard my bora fire up as they took it off of the trailer...it sounded like a bad azz american muscle car w/ some silk in the resonators!! what an incredible sounding machine...i drove it w/ the windows open all the time as the sound was so sweet.

i still wish i had my bora!

I like the comparison of the Bora and GHibli to the BB and Daytona. I feel that the Maseratis offer better overall performance for every day street use, not as fast or as sinfully beautiful but overall performance is excellent. I just bought a '73 Bora for re-sale just after selling a '73 365BB. I feel that it is only fair to compare the Bora to the 365BB because this is the same time period that the BB was first developed.
The build quality of the Bora is amazing and the ride quailty, brakes and handling are outstanding. Attached is a photo of my spectacular Bora.

very, very nice! a suggestion...consider retro-fitting the mirors back to stock. get longer rear wheel studs and get 1/2" to 3/4" spacers (or metric equivilent) to expand the rear track and fatten the look. consider taking off the hud cap/lug covers as it gives a really nice look. the wheels are actually just like the QP3 wheels and look hot w/o the covers.

i think your comments are correct. very special cars bora's are!!!!

I really like the way the wheels look without the center caps as well. Since the caps are in souch good condition it will prevent them from being damaged by the road. Great suggestion on the wider rear track.

That is a fantastic color! Really works for that car. Maserati's seem to work well with understated colors. Not many of the GT's look great in racing red.

I must tell the story of my 73 Euro Bora. I purchased it approx. 6 years ago from Forza. It had been sitting for several years and needed alot of tlc. That was the easy part of the story. The guy who owned it was some kind of doctor and gold was his thing. He had every piece of exterior bright work plated gold, yes gold plated hub caps, bumpers, trim, etc. That was the good part, he also decided the interior was his next work of art and painted the entire interior gold (except for the seats, they were white). When I say the entire interior I am not kidding. I pulled the engine and went the process of rebuilding carbs, gas tank, and all mechanicals. The interior was an ongoing pita that would never end. The wife of this guy (he died, someone probably killed him for the gold) told the person she sold it to that he had won alot of trophies with it (go figure that out). Anyway, I had the irriational thought when I bought it that it would be just good all elbow grease and the gold would come right off. No way. Anyway I reached a stopping point and decided it was saleable and that was what I did. Got most of the gold off, but not all. If I can find any pictures of it I will post them. They are priceless.

After 19 years of Bora ownership I can say it is truly more reliable than any of my Ferraris.
