I live in Chicago and was thinking about renting a house in the LA area for January and February. My approx. budget is roughly $5000 per month and i'd like to be from west Hollywood to Santa Monica. I'd really prefer a house to a condo (need it to be furnished), and I definitely need a garage (for the 430). I'm a totally normal person and would NOT trash anything and would be just me and my girlfriend. Anyone that has a line on something or knows a resource, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, any advise about where to live (or where to avoid) would be welcome. Thanks.

I'd recommend posting this in the SoCal forum. For 5K a month, you should be able to find something good. The two month part will be tricky though, I think. Most lease agreements are 6-12 months. Good luck - that time of year is a great time to be in LA - we still have 70-degree weather!

Shack up with Darth. I'm sure he'd have his wife park outside for a couple of months, give you a omfy couch for around $3K a month. WOW, Look at all the cash you will save:D

Check Craigslist for this and then Google the address and see the satellite view for location etc. A lot of the real estate co's. handle rentals too.

sniff around WWW.VRBO.COM there may be something there.

but with all the places that burned up, I'm thinking lots of people are looking for short-term rentals - or already took them in the last 2 weeks.

During the peak of the fires, I traveled to the LA area and was lucky to get my hotel rooms. I think you are dead-nuts on regrading house rentals. I hope current landlords are not raping prospective renters. Could you emagine being some 7-figure guy with a burned down house, on a cot at the ball park because you could not find a hotel room! Fires suck!

How much does long-term stay at a hotel cost?

Noel, you might be best to go somewhere besides LA, or wait a year or two.

Hell, if you are just going to slack for 2 months, go to Key West or something.

    Doesn't California have rent control?

Only if you moved in PRIOR to the rent control kicking in.

If you've been looking that hard and can't find anything at all, then I doubt anyone here will be able to help you. I see all kinds of things I'd like to rent, you must be too picky (?)

Remember: your talking SoCal, not Kansas City.
