And difficult enough it must have been to spray paint that area.

I will definitely look into that! I'm hoping maybe for my next restoration to do a time lapse of the project if possible!

Jon, painting the license plate the old scheme of blue and yellow is a great touch.

California had blue plates back then, you don't see many these days because the California Bureau of air Resources (BAR) started a program to crush old cars giving credits, these credits could be purchased like stock by big pollution generators (energy companies) to reduce there overall output percentages, reducing thier tax. So the blue plate is rare in the state. Black plate cars are exempt at this time.

Right now your politicians are working on a similar scheme that will involve your "carbon footprint", didn't mean to go on a rant, just sad to see so many nice cars crushed.

Correct me if I am wrong Jon, but this is a white plate that he had painted... I think you could do the same if you wanted to paint it balc and it would be no worries. Are you sure about this, I still see old cars with black california plates.. There an old 250 GTE in Hermosa BEach with a black plate...

History of the California License Plate
Basic information on 1963- present plates:

1963 was the last year a complete new plate issuance to all vehicles occured (the plates had a black background and chrome yellow characters).
1970 is the year the basic plate was changed to a blue background with yellow characters. It was also the last year any black/yellow plates were issued.
1976, year round registration started which requires a month expiration sticker afixed to the upper left hand corner of the plate.
1982 is the year when the standard plate was changed to a white background with blue characters with a sun graphic and CALIFORNIA in red block letters. It was also the last year any blue/yellow plates were issued.
1987, reflectorized plates with CALIFORNIA in red block letters were issued. The sun graphic was discontinued.
1991, only reflectorized basic plates were issued.
1993, the word CALIFORNIA was changed to red script.
1997, stickers were made with background colors that change every year and characters printed in black.
Basic plates issued from 1998 through 2000 contain the words SESQUICENTENNIAL - 150 YEARS in red block letters at the bottom of the plates.
2001, the basic plate is white with blue characters and CALIFORNIA in red script. There is no writing at the bottom of the plate.

My '66 Mustang came with black plates that I was told I could keep and use if I registered in Cali. I didn't butthey told me to keep 'em anyway.

The car was originally registered in Calif. with a blue plate. The second owner got a personalized plate "74 Dino". The owner moved to Texas and registered it there. I re-registered it in Calif. with "74 Dino". No comment on how it became blue :) (not painted)

    omgjon,

Where did you get the rubber weather stripping for the area where the rear of the targa top attaches to the body? When I had my car repainted a couple of years ago, my shop told me it wasn't available and I ended up with some cheap rubber trim that has cuts in it from the targa top hardware. I was very disappointed by this. It would be great to be able to replace that with the right stuff.

    Thanks for any help,

    Manny

I must have more of this thread. I actually talked to my mom about this thread. It has motivated me to start disassembling my 911 Cab. I dread the completion of your car, because it means the end of this thread. (Please take that as a compliment).

Wonderful progress and detailed photos. I am guessing you were an engineer or a surgeon with your skill set.

    Congrats on the project.

I think it would be great to have a video clip of your first starting and pulling out of the Dino... The reward for this thread.

Bill, at GT parts (Arizona) Not only does he come up with almost everything I needed, including a few unobtainable parts that I've broken or lost, he has a wealth of knowledge.

Someday this thread hopefully will end. But I have a 73 GT flares and chairs that I plan on doing next only way better. Good luck with your 911 Cab. I love those cars. I have a 96 911 Cab I've had since new. Speed yellow with 15,000 miles. I only get to keep it till June. Long ago I promised it to my son when and if he graduated from law school. Looks like a certainty now. Oh well an empty space in the garage to fill :) Not a surgeon or engineer, just a goofball interested in cars

I bought 2 license plates in the past from them. They cannot mail them to you in California. I had to send them to a buddy in Indiana and then have him send them to me. I have black plates (of my current plates) for the Dino Spyder and blue plates for the 928. FYI - the plates are VERY soft and bend easily. So you have to be somewhat careful with them. Andrew

Back to work. Too much going on, it's been hard to get any work days. I did manage to put the front hood on and get it aligned and put new rubber stops on. Also a few trim pieces and started working on the dash.. I also took it off the rotisserie so I can start the front suspension soon. Somebody wanted a photo of the door wiring harness so I hope this is what you want. If not let me know.
