I want to install a warning light on my 360. To do this I need a switch that automatically turns on and off at certain preset values between 0Volt and 6Volt. Does anyone know where I can buy such a switch off the shelf? I tried to Google "voltage triggered switch" or "voltage triggered relay" but couldn't find anything. I don't know much about electronics, but I think this can be easily done no?

"easily" is a relative term ;)

Do a search on "voltage switched relay" and "relay driver" -- should get you some options (like http://www.pontech.com/products/red100/index.htm, but I just picked that one at random -- better if you could find one that use +12V power rather than +5V power)

Hello CWW - I don't know of any off-the-shelf item that will fit your need, but if you can find an electronic tech locally,
a circuit known as a "voltage comparator" will do exactly what you desire. Here is a link to a webpage describing a simple version.

    http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/vol_6/chpt_6/2.html

The examples are close to what you require, some changes would be needed. The second one might actually work unchanged.
Any competent tech, even a student, could build such a circuit for a few dollars and 1-2 hours time.

My background is electronics, cars are only a personal interest, so if there is a ready-made automotive solution, I wouldn't know
of it. I tend to doubt it, though.

Is this for a shift light (rev. indicator)? If so, a bright LED should work well.

    Hope this helps!

I am pretty sure you can find one at Akihabara.

you might try some place like digikey.com or mouser.com - I buy electronics from both places.

Thanks fot the link. I think I understand how that circuit works in terms of general principle. I will search for more reference material. My problem is that I don't know enough about electronics to put together a robust design to avoid the possibility of frying other circuits in the car.

Thanks Ray. That is a good source for parts. I just found a relay there that I was looking for.

Can you please post a link to the part or give seller/manf/PN information for other's future reference?

The relay I found is just a 50amp heavy duty unit by Omron G8JR series. It is very similar to the F1 pump relay for the Stradale, but much cheaper. I still need to build the voltage sensing circuit, which will require further research by me and hopefully with lots of help from others.
