The styling of the GT-R leaves much to be desired and would need to be significantly revamped before I'd even consider getting one. The performance is very impressive, but at the end of the day, you're still driving a Nissan.

I think that's about as likely as Michael Moore (that fat, liberal movie guy) winning the F1 driver's championship next season.

Planet Moon... Very funny!! ;) Personally the car looks like it came right out of the Transformers Movie and its ready to stand up and stomp on some one. Its has one ugly MOFO front end. IMHO the Nissan car's competitors are the Z06, AMG C63, BMW M3 and maybe a Viper. But, 430 or Gallardo?? Come on!!!

Actually, I think the Z06 has impacted Ferrari sales. I bought a C6Z06, owned it for 6 short months and rushed to the Ferrari dealer. If anybody catches wind of me buying a car based on specs again feel free to hit me with a crow bar.

Sorry Tom, but I need the crow bar for my own head...I drove the z06 thinking I could buy a ferrari like car for third the price...what i would be getting is a souped up vette at almost double the price...thats a BIG difference!!!!!

You have all credibility back for appreciating the Enzo. Those who think it's ugly need to make an appointment with you :D

First of all 99% of "20 something fast and furious kids" will not be able to afford the new GTR as it is priced well above most young peoles' income unles they are financially independent. A 20 yo doing a uni degree/trade, coughing up 100 K + for a GTR? I dont think so... So infact the people that will buy the new GTR will be lawyers, doctors, and businessmen who do have the cash...

A GTR is not good looking and EVO is? Your a blind fella arent you?

    Porsche boxter? How boring.

in order to really appreciate the performance differences, you'd have to track the cars. And a very small percentage of ferrari owners actually do this with any regularity. This smmall portion may be tempted away to another mark, but in reality, there has almost always been something faster than a F car on the track. people make car purchasing decisions based on emotion. Not on spec sheets.

    Interesting points.

I personally like the 360 modena and F430 shapes a lot, anything older than 360 or even the new 599 (froggy shape) Im not a fan of at all.

Here is the photos of both the new GTR and the 599... I seriously think the GTR looks much better and meaner than the 599.
And the GTR goes harder too from what I read... the thing is, they have a similar shape all in all, but IMO the GTR pulls it off that much better.

Most Ferraris are garage queens. Some do race them but most people get them to impress the Jones'.

So that riced-out-350Z-looking thing is a GTR? I had never seen one before. Thanks for posting the pics! :)

Looks like the 599 values are going to drop dramatically then.
The wait list for Ferraris will be gone too...

Apart from everything, the ring #'s for GTR are highly suspicious. How can a car that weighs 3850 pounds and has 480 hp on it lap the ring at 7:38? I do not know, maybe it's the greatest breakthrough in suspension technology, but those numbers do not add up. GTR is heavier than 599 and is down 120 horses, yet does the ring 10 sec faster. Marketing fantasy. This car is competing with RS4, M3 and the like, not with 997TT or 430.

For a few $K a modded Mitsu Evo can spank that GTR, and a guy down here in SD makes 600HP kits for 350Z... so why would anyone spend 80K on a GTR?

... I guess to impress the Jones' ?

I have a evo VIII fq340 and the performance is nearly same as my 360 if not better, and roadholding is surely way better, however that does no decrase the value or drama of Ferrari a tiny bit..

hell, i am not intimidated even from CGT, its just a superfast porsche.

    Specs arent everything..

This thread, while certainly entertaining, is one the most repeated themes in cardome. The routine goes something like this:

"Well, I don't know who would buy an (insert name of expensive/respected sports car, usually the marque which the Forum focuses on) when you could buy a (insert name of less expensive/less respected sports car) and mod it for a few bucks and have a faster car." (The guy posting, by the way, probably would love to have the expensive/respected marque but cannot. The natural, if somewhat subliminal impulse, then, is for the guy posting to come up with all the reasons that the more expensive/respected marque is a waste of money).

Then, like clockwork, all the owners of the expensive/respected sports car feel obliged to respond that you could strap a missle on a Yugo and have a REALLY fast car, but who would want it? And so it goes...

Yesterday, I was coming up an on-ramp in my F430. It was one of those long, straight approaches with concrete barricades on each side. I was with my twelve year old daughter and both of the windows were down. I squeeze the loud pedal and crack through the gears with the F1 at about 8000 rpm. The barricades serve as a rolling sound room, and the hair stands up on the back of my neck. My daughter, who is deep in a text message frenzy, looks up, smiles, and says "now THAT sounds like a Ferrari." We immerge from the chute and onto the freeway like a sparkling red jewel in a sea of the ordinary. I feel like singing in Italian, but I don't know the words.

Guess what? the whole time I was enjoying this experience I didn't ONCE think to myself, "Gee, I coulda bought a Camry and put twin turbos on it. Then I would be BAAAAD."

That might be the best summary yet :) The reason that people don't understand a car is because they A) dont have first hand experience B) hold a bias against it and don't want to see. A few years back I had the opportunity to realize a dream and drove my first f-car. It was for me, an experience unable to be put into words. When one of my F&F bias friends asked about it, it was along by saying "So was it nearly as great as all the magazines say it is or just a bunch of BS like I thought?". And I just looked at him for a moment and said "No not even close" to which he nodded agreeably thinking I was done. "Theres no way that you can put a car like that into words". If I only had a camera to capture the "I just lost my dog" facial expression....
