When Dinos and new V8 Ferraris are the same price, will you swap old for new?

  1. No way, my 206/246 Ferrari Dino is a keeper

  2. Yes, a new V8 Ferrari for my classic is too good to pass up

With the value of 206/246 Ferrari Dinos on the rise, there will come a day when the price of a pristine 206/246 Dino is equivalent to a new V8 series Ferrari. Assuming you can trade that pristine 206/246 GT/S for a brand new Ferrari V8 GT/Spider, will you?

    Please vote accordingly.

    Cheers...Keith

WELL ITS LIKE DAY AND NIGHT?

A NEW CAR WILL HAVE NO MAINTENANCE ISSUES FOR FIRST FEW YEARS,WHILE DINO WILL HAVE MORE AND MORE.
THE DINO WILL GO UP IN PRICE 3 YEARS DOWN THE LINE.THE NEW ONE WILL DROP IN PRICE AND THEIR WILL BE ALWAYS A BETTER NEW ONE,THAN THE CURRENT NEW MODEL. WHILE THE OLD ONE WILL ALWAYS AND EVEN MORE BE A CLASSIC.

THEIRS NO COMPARISON. ITS LIKE HAVING A BEAUTIFUL BLOND OR A BEAUTIFUL BRUNETTE.

this is a biased place to post this poll. i think if you posted in the 360/430 section "would you trade your new 430 for a dino" the results would be exactly the opposite

I'm just posting a topic for discussion. You see, that's what we do here on Ferrarichat. I'm not selling anything or promoting an auction on eBay, I'm trying to stimulate thought amongst Dino owners and enthusiasts. At some point, we all have to choose between different but appealing options, be they blondes/brunettes, new/old, day/night. Please vote - it's free!

I agree, this may be a biased place to post this survey but I'm more curious about going from old to new and how many of us will shake loose when faced with this choice down the road. I for one have given it some thought as I hear just how amazing these new 430s are. That being said, Orlando's points about maintenance and depreciation are always top of mind.

ya' know, I'm kind of restling with this dilema.

The Dino is as fixed as I can fix it. Nowhere to go to make it better, nicer, quicker, etc. It is an unbelievably beautiful car, a true automotive work of art.

Having said that, my budget doesn't allow for multiple automotive Picassos, so, if I'm gonna get another car, then something's gotta give. The Dino looks like the nominee. I know we've talked about it before, and I started down this road a few months ago, but, I'm a tinkerer, and I can't tinker with perfection. :D If I want another Ferrari, then the Dino really does have to go.

I have a very nice offer on the table. Still tap dancing a little, but the buyer is VERY serious, would be an excellent home for the car, and appreciates it for what it is. And, that's the only way I'm gonna get my hands on another one for the forseable future.

Given all that, I could take some of the proceeds and put my ass into a not very old 360. Would I do that, even if I sell the Dino? Nope. I think if your an older car guy, the modern stuff offers no real appeal. They don't smell like gas, they have electronics out the wazoo, and are a fast, sterile experience. They still turn heads, but not like a Dino.

OK, looks like I'm talking myself out of it again. Better stop now.

I Owned a beautiful 308 gts carburetor (which is a directly inspired dino and BB MODEL) I love the BB, and want to own a dino when I have a chance to find one.
I'll proberly buy a Blue Chiaro 246 gts with daytona beige interior.
I was cleaning the 308 today getting ready for its sale, many people intrested and all,but I am becoming nervous as I really love the car.
The main issue here is its getting older by the day,but also seems like its getting price attention and will go up soon. But its years I owned it.How I drive and use the ferrari I'd be better off with a 430 Scuderia.
When you drive the old Ferraris it feels like driving and you have to be a pilot to drive it.When you drive these new ones they drive themselves.A girl can drive them.
I personally would like to own as many as possible, but unfortunately I have to think about the spare parts.I have parts of nearly all models and thats a pleasure.I love seeing the daytona lenses, dino jacks, 430 challenge wheels, badges from various models its great!

If I had a good dino like 4redno, they would have to make me laugh (meaning fork out $$$$$$$$$$$$$) to buy it off me!.
I would not trade my dino for a new model. But then again I was about to trade my 308 plus cash for a 360 modena which was so beautiful.
I then ended up keeping the 308 nd buying a yellow 1994 348 gtb with a complete 348 challenge kit done to it these days.I have put so many rare parts on this car and still have not driven it.
355 challenge wheels, carbon fibre seats, yellow carpet interior, doing a terrific paint job on cam covers and the engine bay.Its going to be a very good car.Its already faster than a 355.

Anyway just sharing my nag,as i am worried about my 308 these days.
its on ebay.it take a look.Don't compare prices with u.s as they are worth more here in Italy.

Keep the dino redno and rent a new one when you like.

Apples and Oranges....2 different buyers....therefore i would think you would have both affects. In the dino section you would get 90% of the people saying they would not trade...and in the 360/430 section you would get the 90% that would not trade.

I havent had a Dino, and im not into it, i think its slow, its too low to the ground, and not enough engine noise....but would i want a 360/430 over a dino...the answer would be.......where are the keys to the Dino.

Interasting question, I do not own a Dino, although it was the first Ferrari ( they are considered Ferrari's now aren't they) I every drove. Some one defined Classic by when the value surpases the new price of the eqivelent car. Many classic car owners already have new cars and now they can indulge in the older cars. Twenty years ago Dino owners were people who could not afford new cars and were "making do" but I think that has changed

I have been debating this about my BB, the realities are a modern Ferrari 360 or 430 is a much more useable car that you can take trips in or just rack up miles, the a/c works and being stuck in traffic doesn't give ulcers watching the oil and water temp gauges, these older cars are like museum pieces and very fragile not to mention extremely hard to find some parts and expensive to fix if something breaks so they sit, not to mention along with milage depreciation, personally i'd rather have a driveable car which is where the most ehjoyment is vs a static work of art in the garage driven every so often

Don't get your BB to sit anymore I have heaps of BB parts.
By the way you are quite right watching the Formula 1 and all I like to feel the power of my Ferrari.A dino is more for museum,as for my 308 or your BB.
As I was saying before ,I saw an ad for a cheap BB ,went to buy it at 70000 euros,it got sold as I went their that day.I examined a 360 modena red 2003 ,black interior with red stiching, nice? No beautiful!
But it did not please me as it was an easy driver.I need an F40 or a 360CS ,That might be the go!

    Power = New Ferrari

History / Art pieces = Classic Ferrari

Maybe some places like New England or Northern California but not in Southern California. I have 193,000 miles on my Dino and drive it every day. Maintenance is nil compared to a new car. And humans can do it in their back yard. The appreciation is just icing on the cake. The driving is the fun. Fun can be had with less than 500 hp. Drive a Dino for a week and you can feel the difference.

Please show me some pictures of this high mile dino.Atleast you use it alot and enjoy it to the max.I done 20000 miles in my 308 in 7 years and the first two years was very very used locally.I admit at some long travels with Ferrari days get caught up in traffic and I get tired and can't wait to put the 308 in the garage.A new modena would not be so tiring.
Dino every day: I envy you (in a good way)

I have been posting a "Dino Saga" every Sunday for a couple of years. Take a look at some and you will see plenty of pictures of the Dino. Figured I would share my adventures and it has been fun. There is a "Dino Saga Index" I update every six months that highlights the subjects of each post. Ferrarichat's search engine is also a way to get to any subject.

that is one of the best parts of living in Santa Barbara, you get to see John's Dino on a regular basis.

Although a few weeks ago John ignored me as I was across the way at a stop light flashing my lights like crazy in my Dino...I could be offended :) its still fun and a pleasure to see his car on the road often or at the Home Depot parking lot.

I agree with John. I can take my Dino out to my farm and service it in the workshop!! try that in your 360/430. I admire the later cars too, but they dont make the sound or have the character of the 246. I wouldnt have spent as much in my 20plus years of Dino ownership servicing her as one decent service on a late model car. So long as you regularly do the basic oilchanges, coolants etc the Dino is pretty bulletproof really. I guess that the big thing with the 246 it is fabulous to look at, sounds marvellous , doesnt break the bank servicing it and there certainly is no horrendous depreciation.. What better combination could you get??

Talking about sound of a 246.At Montecarlo their was a 246gt 2 years ago that was always driving around with a very beautiful sports exhaust.I drove behind him in the tunnels and it was truely amazing to hear.

But the 430 really sounds good, you can't say nothing to that, and wait till you hear the 430 scuderia stock exhaust its so good you will not need a sports exhaust.

By the way anyone got a dino x-ost system on their dino?

I think that Dino owners would have a stronger association with the modern V-12 cars and its historic roots rather than the V-8 crowd which usually attracts new, first time buyers to Ferrari, who crave paddle shift, TC, etc.

I put the X-OST system on my car this spring. It did not even come close to fitting properly. By the time we were done getting it to fit, my mechanic had spent about 7 hours cutting, welding and bending. He had to remove all the mounting brackets, and both flanges to make it go.

They were re-tigged and it works fine but, compared to the Stebro we took off, it was a MAJOR hassle. And no, it wasn't a Euro exhaust. It was the US spec system, it just simply didn't fit.

Finish (polished stainless) was very good, and now it sounds great, but I would highly recommend staying as far away as possible from this particular system. I've been told that the Dino isn't the only car that has some serious fit problems.
