2 mounts for $70. mounting hardware not included (a bit of enginuity required) https://shop.sunrisecyclery.com/item/315/
Yes, now that would be an ideal mounting plate for the pieces I have listed above. That doo-dad would hang from the seat rails, and my stuff would bolt onto it. Heck, even the stock Halon mounting bracket (the one that comes free with the extinguisher) would probably fit on there, but not look as sexy. I'll try to get one of those Brey Krause mounts on order today.
those are clipless pedals for a bicycle. if you can transfer that concept to mounting a fire extinguisher, it would work great. concept explained here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKdn_XCAwl0
That is for the outdoorsman 348 owner. If you have a bicycle attached to the back of your 348 you can use the clipless pedal to attach a fire extinguisher to the pedal while you are driving then store it in your car while you ride your bike through the alpine highland of Appalachia.... Duh! BT
Did anyone ever get a mounting bracket to work with the 355? Daniel did you get those Charness ones in yet?
Hi All, I had a different view of the fire extinguisher mounting. Did not want to take the seats out or apart to put in a system that I could not remove easily say for concours judging. The attached photos show the system. I bolted a block to the passenger seat adjustment bar on the 355. Remember pull it up and seat is relased for movement. The block is mounted to the bar with 4 machine screws. The clip on the fire extinguisher is spring loaded and merely needs a squeeze to release. Quite simple. It can be removed in a couple o minutes for the concours judge. Chas Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I like that because no matter if you move the passenger seat for a rider the extinguisher stays in the same mounting place.. Is this mount avaible somewhere?
I think you've just saved my life with this statement. I carry the hand-activated kind, but I never considered being unconscious until now (and going as fast as I do, I might get knocked out in a wreck). Thank you!
Cool! And it's not just being unconscious. You might be pinned in by bent metal in a wreck, unable to reach the fire extinguisher activation...or you might have parked your car for the night and left it when a fuel leak drips onto a still-hot cat with you not even around. In all of those cases it makes sense to have an automatic extinguisher in your engine bay. And they are CHEAP! I paid ~~ $130 each for my two units. People pay more for floor mats than for an automatic fire extinguisher that could save their lives.
Anyone have an experience with this setup? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-355-Spider-Fire-Extinguisher-Bracket_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ63699QQihZ019QQitemZ290180664363QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
The bracket around the F/E is made by Brey Krause. I purchased it several years ago from OG Racing. P/N# BR9520. not cheap but it was an easy fix. I did need to go to a machine shop to have the other half of the bracket made. Small block with 4 tapped holes... Im not sure they still carry them but you can ask... Chas
I have mine tucked between the passenger seat and the door sill. I have no mounting bracket and find that it slips into that space very neatly .I really did not want to mount it anywhere.
You always bring these up and I always agree with you - I can not think of a better solution all things considered for a street car. I mean, we sometimes see pics of grisly wrecks where the occupants were trapped (alive) but die by fire. An auto extinguisher is the way to go! I'd still like to have a small portable on hand, though. Just remember - it has to be secure or it's a torpedo, and you or someone else who may have never even seen your car has to be able to get it quick in a panic situation - like the way airplane seatbelt come off just the way you'd TEAR them off in a fire/escape situation.
Yup. Automatic fire extinguisher in the engine bay, handheld manual extinguisher in the cockpit. That's prudent. Once done, then go have fun!
Here is my set up that I don't see anyone using thus far. Easy to get to and not too obnoxiously out in the open. It was done by Ferrari of Denver by the previous owner. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's interesting. How hard is it to access the underside of the console there? I'm wondering if it would be possible to use big sheet metal screws so everything could be done from the top, instead of using bolts and having to get nuts onto the back side. Anyone know if there are important hoses or wires under that spot?
Not sure, but those may be hex head screws just screwed into the console..See if billyfitness can unscrew one of them to see exactly how it was mounted-by bolts and nuts or just screws..
Not sure if I want a 2.5 lb or the 1.5 lb----Better to go with the bigger? I figure 1.5 needs less room to mount..
