I did a search on this site and received a wealth of information, product information, and useful comments. I have the room to put about any kind of lift to use for parking cars only...not planning to work on cars. The single lift in the link below looks very nice. Of course, I question the stability of it. But, my biggest concern in parking any scissor door Lambo underneath is... will the scissor door open without hitting the platform/car above it? Anyone with first hand experience on this?

    http://www.asedeals.com/single_post_storage_lifts.html

Thanks in advance for any info or advice.

I cannot open the door of my Diablo enough to crawl out. If you are not height advantaged it may work for you, but someone will have to stand there to make sure you don't bang the door into the platform. I originally bought the lift and kept my 360 there. Obviously did fine with that.

    Lambo1..

Quick question. Did you modify your tracks yourself?

Ive been trying to get my tracks modified and garage door companies want to put up a new door and tracks($1500), they said they cant move the tracks..

yes...good point. The fourth garage is 26ft deep with a 12ft ceiling and the door tracks already hug the ceiling, so this setup might be the ideal one for me.

    Thanks for sharing...

I have run out of space myself, and just began the process of trying to sort out what lift to get. So this thread it timely!

Things are going to be tight since I only have 9.5 foot ceilings. Anyway, can anyone recommend a good installer in Southern California. I am in Orange County.

    Thanks,

    G

I had a door company do my tracks...you can keep the same door...all they do is add a piece of straight track installed on a slight angle and conected it to my existing track to hug the ceiling...they also have to change the spring...$1500 seems steep, my guy was in and out in 3 hours.

Look at the pics on this site

Are you planning on parking 2 scissor door cars in the garage? If not put the lambo on the rack and a conventional car underneath. Setting up this way will allow you to park the lambo on the lift, get out and close the door, then lift it then park something else with a more conventional ingress/egress underneath. No lambos in my subdivision, but several homes have lifts (most homes only have 2 car garages as the lots are deep but not wide) this seems to make the most sense to me as you would not want to have to contort yourself to unsusal positions to enter or exit the car.

Keep in mind, if your wife is involved in any way, there's no way she's gonna position a 2-post lift & raise a car, but even mine can use the button on a drive-on lift. :)

If at all possible, try to buy a ALI certified lift. You have many to choose from:

    http://autolift.org/members.html

I use 2 post and 4 post lifts every day. I have personally installed over 15 lifts.

Many lifts are "self certified". They set their own standards and then claim that they are the only lifts that meet these standards. Hog Wash! ALI sets the standards and all the major players are listed.

Look at the shipping weight alone of a cheap lift. They are almost 1000 pounds less than a quality lift = Thin metal. You won't find me standing under one of these. Search the Internet, find the pictures of the Corvette in the Kitchen when the lift fell. Find the guy that was saved by his Snap On tool chest when a car fell, Find the CJ jeep that ended up in the upstairs bedroom when the button arced and would not stop.

2 post lift is not good for car storage. 4 post is better for that. You almost need one of each type depending on what you are doing that day.

I could turn this into a 3 page report, but I will stop here.

I went with the Pro Park 7 from Greg Smith Equipment:

    http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/Direct-Lift-Pro-Park-7-LL-p/tppro-park7ll.htm

Had the thing in three days and paid a local handy man $350 to do the install which took about three hours; he was a fairly big guy and had his kid help him, who was built like a linebacker, so your mileage may vary on that aspect. The two car tracks are the heaviest pieces and I estimate they weigh about 350 pounds each so you'll need some big guys to move them into place, or a bunch of friends. The total thing weighs about 1800 pounds so they'll only ship it to a place with a fork lift to get it off the truck, or to a freight depot. I had it shipped to a depot, took an open top trailer down and they put it in the trailer for me, then my guy here just took one piece at a time out of the trailer.

I only have 10.5 foot ceilings but I'm using it to store my Radical over my Gallardo and both cars together don't amount to more than 7.5 feet so I have no issues with clearance. I have complete confidence in the lift because I put my G-wagen up in the air no problem and that thing weighs nearly 6000 pounds, just make sure you tighten the hydraulic fittings correctly or you'll end up with transmission fluid (that's what it uses) all over your Lambo. :)

I'm confused. Why would you want a four post lift when a two post will give you the option of working on the car and free up so much more space for your hands and tools. Is it because these lift are for storage first and work second?

Yes.. storage first. 2 post lift have to be secured to the floor the 4 post don't and are removable from the house after you leave if the new buyer doesn't want them.

I just need more storage space one more parking spot, with out adding on to my garage.

I read some more on them at the lift sites. You know, you can always cut off the bolts and fill in the holes and take the lift with you. I like working on my cars and wouldn't mind the two post. I will be getting one for the next house for sure.
