When I was in my late 20's-30's I would buy cheap 65-66 Mustangs($500) , do all of the body work , then take it to Earl Schieb for a $99 paint job just before selling for $3k or so, they really turned out pretty well, considering how cheap it is. It made the cars much easier to sell.
(They would paint the wheels unless you tell them not to.)

95 percent of the paint job is preperation. Those guys shoot a lot of cars and the guy holding the spray gun usually does a pretty good job at those places. I've found the prep work to be very poor. If you know a little about what your doing and do a lot of it yourself you may come out with a decent paint job. Otherwise, only if you are selling it for $3k next week.
