I'm not going to waste any bandwidth here with another Italian food related joke. But a suggestion on penetrating oil... I have had very good success with a product called Kroil. I have found that it works much better than PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench or any other product of that type. Comes in a spray can. I've used it on bolts and fittings that nothing else will get loose, and it did the trick. I swear by (not at) the stuff.

    Verell,

if you can't wait for help.......,,,
get it like this,,, ,, (see plywood landing zone.)

and Roll it off the tranny, all by yourself,
then, use a strap to lift it with a block and tackle.
    (these motors are soo tiny.)

I've machined a small engine stand's mounting plate to clear the differential (3hrs cutting 1/2" steel with my Mini-Mill!).

As you can see, all that's needed is a 2nd weak back to lift it up & insert the plate's mounting nose into the stand. Chris will be over Sunday to help lift.

Then I can tear into it & find out what it needs.

I had some free time, plus I need to get it onto the stand so I can move it around. Right now it's blocking access to the compressor, breaker panel, & powdercoating oven which is behind it (I lied about it being a dishwasher, was trolling but no one took the bait;) ).

    Hi Gang,

Since i'm rebuilding my gear box and the motor is out, i decided not to go with the Supercharger that i had planed on. (Sorry Lou, Thor and Mike) I always loved carbs and when i found a complete set of Webers/Manifolds i decided That's the way i want to go. Hey, didn't Enzo design the 308 to be with carbs anyways??

Some suggested i start a engine rebuild thread, so i figured i throw the CIS to CARB conversion that i will be doing into the mix too.

This will be a long project. I work slow. (Hey, pizza making takes most of my day.) :)

You can read/see some of the project in this thread:
    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=166826

I want to Thank all my local Fchatters in advance for any help/advice they can offer. Thanks guys. :)

I'm in the process of a slow rebuild as well. I'm hoping to be done by the early part of next year though. I would highly recommend Weisco for pistons. I dealt with Sue. Fast turn around, pistons, pins, and rings were $990.80!!!!
They are custom, so any compression you want. I went with .020 over and 10:1. I needed new heads and the ones I got were euro, so there are no emission ports on them. When I had my headers ceramic coated, they cut out the emission ports and welded them clean as well. With the heads I went with a 3 angle valve job and a mild port match. Things lined up quite well.
Aside from that, every bearing, gasket, and hose is new. Some of the external bolt ons are being replaced as well.
When time and money allow, maybe I'll look into upgrading the injection and maybe cams, who knows...

I just want to say that we here in the FFIC are very proud of Chris. He has come a long way from that guy who didn't own a wrench a few years ago to a lift-owning Ferrari-fixing stud that he is now!! ;)

I applaud the conversion to carbs, the way Enzo wanted the 308! By the time Pizzaman has the new pistons, porting, valves and carbs, he will have the fastest normally-aspirated 2Vi out there!

Now, anyone have a 308 carb airbox for sale? He needs one.

Etip, did you have the piston people talking with the guy doing the heads to be sure that the valves were going to clear the pistons? How did you deal with that issue?

    Hi Chris,

    Welcome to the carb club!!!

The other day I was riding passenger seat in my own GT4 and I noticed that the sound of the engine is sooooo much sweeter on that side!!!

    Why?

Carb intake noises coming in through the open window.

Do yourself a favor and SWAP oil cooler and air cleaner box intake! Get the air for the carbs from the driver side intake and demote your oil cooler to the passenger side (if it all fits). It'd be so worth it!!!

Hans (still wondering about that obvious oversight on the 308 engine design)

I found my airbox at GT in Arizona. Everywhere else was very expensive.

This is going to be fun.

I have a spare air box for a 308. I want one million dollars...no one billion dollars...(sorry I caught part of Austin Powers this weekend).

I will sell it at a reasonable price to support my fellow lunatics....send me a PM.
