Got the chance to do about 50 kms at the Ascari track in southern Spain. The 'box, the traction out of turns, the engine and the imperceptibility of the electronics - all amazing. With enough electronics still on to save you (and the car) you can still chuck it, slide it and really drive it. Fastest thing I've ever driven - ENZO INCLUDED Got to do a few laps next to one of the Maserati MC12 racing drivers.....now that was truly Amazing. Can't wait til it gets here... Another world to a 997 GT3RS, Gallardo superleggera, etc. As the racing driver said: this car puts everyone else 5 years behind
I think the GT2 has only half the amount of gadgets and tech-ware as the Scuderia. I am a fan of both cars, but I would no doubt pick the 430 in terms of looks, performance and overall "WOW" factor.
....it is a very fast car, Sir. And let us wait and see what the first competitions against the GT2 will bring. The same thing as in the past: The old GT3 beats the Stradale with less power and I guess that the Scuderia's promised 520hp ist also a ferry tale. It was a ferry tale according to the 355, the 360 and to the 430 cars too. I saw several F 430 cars on dyno's: no car reached the promised 490 hp. The measured cars had between 440 and 480 hp. Let us wait.... Andi
Congrats man. You so lucky to have a drive in Scuderia. I am happy you liked the Scud. This makes me more sure I am on the right way with my December Scuderia. I simply cannot wait until I can drive it. Best.
Can you attach any Dyno List of F430 you tested and post it here, making us believe you. 997 GT2 is differnt league to Scuderia, what funny things are you saying. Please stop talking such b*****t. What about comparing 997 GT2 with Scuderia, just read latest EVO magazine, those guys know what they are talking about. I respect both cars, but this guy is right, even I cannot express my own thoughts better as he did: Best.

If power to weight ratio were the only thing that mattered, then you would see legions of 1000hp/2500lb cars out there killing everything in sight. While that has happened on occassion, ask why that is not the case - what makes an automobile fast is not the power to weight ratio but, rather, the total package - handling dynamics, balance, tires, weight distribution, how, when and where power is produced, brakes, and on and on and on and on - oh, and the driver matter MOST. I recall 25+ years ago seeing Dan Gurney - driving a Toyota Corolla - overtake some poor schnook who was driving a Toyota Supra. DOn't think power-to-weight ration matter there!
I agree with what was just said above (especially the last part about Gurney, since I saw a guy in a 4 speed base tercel outgun some guys in Vettes and P-cars time-wise at an autocross), but the main reason you do not see the low weight high HP cars is that it's just easier to not try to lower the weight and just add more HP (see Corvette Z06, Viper, etc. as examples). A Lotus Exige S could likely run with these cars in many respects with less than half the HP, but the bean counters think adding 50 HP is better than using a lighter, but more expensive material for construction. Also, a lot of buyers demand the "luxury items" that add weight.
the gt2 isnt special at all...way overpriced for what is it is...porsche took the turbo, adds boost, gets rid of 4 wheel drive, and charges$70k more for it....i would actually rather have the high reving , non turbo, better balanced gt3, and save enough money to buy a 997cab as a daily cruiser.......
Who gives a ****, keep this topic to the Scuderia, be thankful for the post by Peter. This is not a comparison post.
Porsche has spent 30 + years with the same car design doing nothing more than polishing the same car. Hmmm - oh yea, thats evolution.
+2. Both are fantastic cars. I think performance will be very similar. I would take a Scud if I had the choice but I have a lot of respect for the GT2. 7:32 around the ring aint bad. Some people make vey silly and ignorant statements about Porsche's. We are lucky to see such puirpose built cars for the road. This rivalry is very good and fun to watch. GT2's will also go at a premium to MSRP - and will likely depreciate faster vs. a scud (who cares - at that amount of $ buy the one you want). Many Ferrari's also depreciate. $200K 550's can be had for $110K. 575's and 612's dont hold their value that well either. Best
Peter, thanks for being the euro eyes and ears for all of us mired stateside, just waiting for a whiff of real driving news about this car. Probably good timing as you must be about used up on the second(?) cs by now!! If you get a follow up, pls post some more feedback, John
Hey folks...no one who wants a Scuderia (really wants one) is going to look at a GT2 or GT3 RS for that matter UNLESS that person buys both - and I know only one guy who has done that. The Dutch pics were taken the day after we were there. The car is a curious one: my initial reaction was: thank goodness that I kept the CS. When driven in sport mode and not aggressively it appears to be unbelievably efficient but seems to lack soul. When driven more aggressively in Sport mode it seems to begin to come alive, in race mode the soul is there and in CT off mode it simply leaves you breathless. The gearbox leaves you speechless: makes a 599 seem like a 355 F1 did when the CS came out, THe traction seems to defie the laws of physics - which of course it does, but the electronics are relatively imperceptible. The noise is nice but it does not make zour hair stand on end like the CS The car is blindingly quick and it makes it appear easy. So when you go past the "too late" point it must be very very difficult to catch. In the hand of thr professional racing driver, all I could do was laugh. To Andi355: If you want a GT 2 - buy one as there is no problem ordering one and you had better really love it as it is going to be yours for a long time....Don't worry about us Scuderia owners: we know we have the best and anyway there are NONE left for sale, so your problems are over!
peter , thanks very much for detailing what she is like to drive , i'm sure it was hard to post your thoughts people , if you like the scud , that's great , if you like the GT2 , that's great too . i love them both , and will be adding both to the stable , while keeping my GT3 . all the cars will drive differently. my 996 GT2 was line ball in speed to my 430 , we raced them side by side , and the result amazed us , as the GT2 felt quicker , due to the way it delivered the power , but it wasn't . as for losing value , it depends what country you are in . in australia , they will drop in % pretty much the same. unless you are in the market to buy one of these cars , keep the stupid comments in the playground
