To continue wildly off topic I always wondered while clearly the Aussie taste for Vegemite must be genetically inherited from some Pom Marmite gene, the American colonies as a culture were somehow spared the desire for this 'delicacy'.
    Our loss? :)

    Hi Chris,

I read the whole thread but I could not find the end of the story on the transmission (I'm new to FerrariChat and still learning who to search). What was the problem with the transmission? Were the synchs worn out? Bearings ok?

    Thanks,

    Richard

At a minimum, the 1st gear synchro is gone, & both 2nd gear synchros are gone. This is based on pre-removal driving.

The trans is sitting in my garage on the stand, still dripping lube & waiting for me to tear it down & do a full assessment.

I'm splitting my time between several projects & a long list of HoneyDos so it's going to be well towards the start of driving season before the trans project is finished.

Dont take the plastic gears off, take the smog pump pulley off once the cams are out. To change the cam seals you slide them along the cam from the other end rather than chance breaking the pulleys. With the timing belts off loosen the cam caps gradually working your way back and forth from one end to another so you slowly release the spring pressure from the valve springs then put the cam caps back on exactly the way you found them and dont mix them up or turn them around. Also while you're there take close look at the cam gears in around the bolt hole to make sure there are no cracks radiating out.

    Paul,
At this point cam seals are irrelevent, the heads are coming off to be rebuilt.

He asked about removing the cam gears, I explained why he shouldnt and took it a step further to explain how to change the cam seals with the gears left on.
