    What's a decent camera for night time shots.

    I have a friend who needs one and her current camera doesn't have that night vision thing, where looking at the lcd the camera adjusts the light, so you can see more clearly. {Old cameras just show a blank screen}

    What's that feature called?

    It's called Nightshot on my Sony (SD-100, $1000 about 1.5 years ago) .... it works pretty decent at short range indoors but compared to actual night vision (either image intensifier tubes like night vision goggles or actual infrared cameras) it's still pretty limited. The Sony cameras, and most of the others I assume, have a infrared light and really only just dip a little into the near infrared range. It's fine for shooting movies like Paris Hilton but don't expect to see much outside on a dark night. It has a "super night shot" setting that seems to just slow the frame rate down to allow it to gather additional light but it isn't much good for anything fast moving.

    Hummm, thanks for the info. I guess a just a good quality camera is on tap then. My Canon A640 takes a decent shot at night but I haven't tried a distant shot.
